William Hill Price Boost – Djakadam & Thistlecrack

There’s a big day of horse racing at Cheltenham today and William Hill are running a tasty little price boost on the action. They’ve enhanced Djakadam and Thistlecrack both to win from 15/8 to a tasty 3/1! Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential risk-free profit of £6.51 and here’s how…

Price Boost Bet:

The maximum stake for this offer is £10.00.

Place £10.00 on Djakadam & Thistlecrack @ 4.00 = Potential profit of £30.00

Race 1: 1.50 at Cheltenham (Saturday 30th January 2016)

On the first race, we need to cover our original stake of £10.00.  If we divide £10.00 by 0.98 (to account for the 2% Smarkets commission), this gives us a lay stake of £10.20.

Lay £10.20 on Djakadam @ 1.74 = Potential liability of £7.55

If Djakadam wins – £7.55 = – £7.55
If Djakadam doesn’t win – £10.00 + £10.00 = £0.00

So if Djakadam doesn’t win, the offer will be over and we’ll have broken even. However, if Djakadam does win, we will have lost £7.55 so far.

Race 2: 3.35 at Cheltenham (Saturday 30th January 2016)

So, if Djakadam wins, this means on the next race, we need to cover both the £7.55 loss from the first race plus the original stake of £10.00. If we divide £17.55 by 0.98 (to account for the 2% Smarkets commission), this gives us a lay stake of £17.91.

Lay £17.91 on Thistlecrack @ 1.89 = Potential liability of £15.94

If Thistlecrack wins – £7.55 – £15.94 + £30.00 = £6.51 profit
If Thistlecrack doesn’t win – £10.00 – £7.55 + £17.55 = £0.00

So if either horse loses along the way, we’ll have broken even and there’s no harm done. However, if Djakadam and Thistlecrack both win, we’ll have made a nice risk-free profit of £6.51!

I’d like to point out that the above workings are based on the lay odds that were available at the time of writing. If the lay odds fluctuate before we are able to place our lay bets, this may result in us making more potential profit, less potential or even a slight loss, so please bear that in mind before deciding whether or not to do this offer.
