Anyway I’m in. Underlayed for £69 profit it it places. If it doesnt, then surely thats the end of my Sky Bet account.

As far as I know if there is a non-runner the not to place market doesnt change. If you have bet on “Not to place – 3 places” then thats what you get.

I can’t find the full rules for Sky but it would seem that if there was a non-runner there would be some kind of Rule 4 deduction in reverse on your odds. This is how other bookies do it.

    eg Bet365:

    Not to Be Placed

In the event of non-runners the number of places paid will remain the same, unless the number of runners in the race is equal to or less than the number of places paid, in which case all bets will be void. Additionally, if there are any non-runners in a race, a reverse Place deduction may apply to lengthen the odds on selections not to be placed. Normal dead-heat rules apply. Our Double Result offer will apply to this market, however our Best Odds Guaranteed and Best Odds Guaranteed Plus offers as well as Lucky 15/31/63 bonuses do not apply to Not to Be Placed bets.

Like I say I can’t see explicitly on Sky that they would apply a Rule 4 reverse deduction but it seems only logical that they would.

Ha! Like a total idiot I only went and layed it to place at Smarkets instead of backing it to place (so used to backing and laying, haha!)

Traded out of the lay thankfully and now the Smarkets price has gone up to 1.87 so my stupidity has actually made me a few ticks 😀

Oh dear, I think I counted 8 at Horse No. 8 is at the bottom of the list :/

Anyway, Sky’s odds have gone down to 2.25 now so I’ve missed this one but at least I got you all on it!

My concern was more on the exchange – would they reduced their ‘to place’ spots in the event of non runners?

Haha nice one Tony, easy mistake.

When I had a similar issue with non runners (went from 8 runners to 7) I went on live chat to ask if it affected anything, they said no you’d still get paid out at the same price but with 2 places. This meant that I had the same price for it not to finish in the top 2, so I could place for it to finish in the top 2 at a much higher price – got 3.75/1.95 Dutch in the end. I could’ve left it however and maybe hit the jackpot if it came third but I wanted to guaranteed a higher profit. This shouldn’t be a problem anyway on the first race as there’s 9 runners as it stands.

Anon. Yes non runners would mean they would have reduced the to place odds on the exchange. I got hit by that last week and made a small loss on one of the races.

Market seems to have gone again for me just as I started to browse again? So sporadic at the moment can’t get my head round it.

Any value in combing this with an e/w arb? Would backing and laying the win as normal then dutching the place with sky produce more value than a normal lay?
