Arbing : Do I need to be careful?

  • Hi,

I was a bit bored yesterday so just started using Oddsmonkey and taking arbs on a lot of horses with bets of about £25 each time (on my gubbed accounts).

I fairly quickly had my stakes limited by Stan James, but was wondering is there any reason why I shouldn’t be doing this, especially on my non-gubbed accounts?

Can the bookies find out that you are just betting on arbs?

It seems like I made an easy £20 yesterday, so wondered if I need to watch out or not!

    cheers
    Martin

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Putting certain clauses in their T&Cs doesn’t give them the right to “do whatever they want”. If a particular term is deemed unfair to the consumer I would think you could challenge that in court (Consumer Rights Act / Unfair Contract Terms act). I, for one, would be prepared to take a bookie to a small claims court if they just decided to withhold my legitimate winnings.

I have a question. Lets say youre a normal punter, a race is about to start. You pick a horse and bet £100 on it.
How the fuck are you gonna know if this horse was available to lay on the exchange at a lower price?
You can only back the horse at the odds the bookie has given as thats the bookie youve chosen to use.

They must ban normal punters for arbing accidentaly surely?

Cant see how placing a bet at odds they have chosen and accepted a bet at can get you banned. Such a scam this gambling business

In answer to your question Ice I am sure they do ban normal punters quite often. However if you look at what several of the posters have said on this thread and numerous other threads of a similar nature on other sites, your are very unlucky if they ban your for doing just one arb.

I would imagine the books have some kind of software monitoring everybodies account and if a certain amount of arbs or a certain amount of money is bet via possible arbs over a certain amount of time then a trader will look over your account.

@the_don have you tried mulitsurebets? Using doubles to try and hide arb betting sounds good, but isn’t there the following problem with this stragegy?

In the info you posted they recommend having around 4 hours between the arb events, and no matter how long you have between them you have to have the outcome of the first event completed to see if you need to lay off the second before it starts.

The problem I see is that how likely is the second event still to be an arb after (lets say we are betting on football games) a couple of hours having passed.
