Betfred Gubbed and 2nd Place offers

  • So, I got gubbed by Fred. Reason being that I went for 21/1 or so horse with a free bet, and won. So annoyingly I won almost 600 quid (obviously it was layed so I only ‘won’ 25 or so).

That being said, I’ve had the account ages, and it was that win that triggered my account for review – which supports the obvious assumption that the most likely way people get gubbed is just by winning too much money from the bookies perspective. As soon as you make a big win like that, you will undoubtedly get reviewed by a trader. It makes sense that they’d do that anyway..

Given I’m now gubbed, I figured its worth mentioning, for those not aware, that you can back as many horses as you like for their second place offers. You’ll get the free bet if any of those horses come second. Furthermore, if you were to place multiple separate bets on that horse, you’d get multiple free bets. I did this a few times over my time with them, although I hadn’t actually realised when it happened, I’d just placed the second bet for an arb. I know people will often shout about how backing multiple horses will look suspicious, but this is entirely conjecture. Its only suspicious if a trader actually reviews your account. Doing that doesn’t get your account flagged, nor seemingly with Fred does actually getting free bets.. Its the winning they don’t like! I was gubbed within an hour or so of winning big.. They don’t hang around.

The matched betting community is filled with people making guesses and assumptions, but in all honesty, my experience with all the bookmakers I’m with and have been with, is that they just want people losing bets. The rest is all luck. You don’t want to win your bets at the bookies ever, but it will happen, no matter the odds obviously. There’s no way around that part!

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Betfred gubbed me for no reason I can figure. I “won” about £12 off them total. Account lasted about two weeks.

All I did was a couple of money back 2nd races on the horses and dogs. I was only getting into bonus bagging at the time so I was doing small stakes – not even the full 25….

I think you’re on to something on horses though – I no longer bet anything over 10/1 because frightened if I win it will raise a red flag. I might lose some easy opps for free bet extraction but if you look an extra 5 mins you usually find something good at 7/1 or something.

Yeah, seems there’s not always a rhyme or reason, but if you make it out of the initial phase, it does seem like Fred counts tend to last a fair while. I’d placed about 400 bets with them and done almost every offer going, including the dogs, and boosts every weekend.

I’d won the the odd bet at like 7/1 etc, but I’d never won a bet with them that had ‘won’ more than 150-200. As soon as I won that bet though I kind of was expecting to get gubbed!

So you can bet on 2-3-4-5-6-100 horses in the same day on one offer for example money back 2nd 14.40 kempton? Does it not state that only the first bet is the QF bet?

I think the T&C’s of the offer actually don’t say you can’t place multiple bets on different horses, only that you can get one refund per race:

“Maximum free bet refund £25 (or currency equivalent) per customer per qualifying race.”

Which from a technical perspective, seems not to be true, as they do appear to credit for multiples, but yeah I’d probably avoid doing that. The main take-away is just covering the field a bit, where possible, seems legitimate. I would sometimes get 5 or so horses covered and would always have a qualifying profit, so its a good offer, just a shame they only do the odd race now and again, rather than entire meetings.

And also, because of this I would try, where possible to get all of the same horses on Tote as well. Often the odds would change too quickly to get both on, but if you’re on it, it shouldn’t be a problem!
