There’s a big Saturday of Premier League football to look forward to and Betfair are getting in on the action! Simply place a £20.00+ Exchange back bet on any Saturday Premier League match and Betfair will give us a £10.00 free bet towards a lay bet on Arsenal v Everton on Sunday. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.47 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- We must opt-in to this promotion to be eligible.
- The minimum stake to qualify is £20.00.
- We must place an Exchange back bet on any Premier League match on Saturday 22nd February 2020.
- £10.00 free bet must be used via mobile towards a lay bet on the Match Odds market of Arsenal v Everton.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how they should be done.
If you’re paying 2% commission with Betfair’s Basic package, you won’t be eligible for this ‘Bet £20, Get £10’ Exchange offer.
We’ll need to lay our bet at another exchange.
It’s entirely up to you what you place your qualifying bet on. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Southampton to beat Aston Villa.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £19.72.
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Betfair | Other Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Southampton win | +£12.73 | -£13.40 | £0.67 loss |
Southampton don’t win | -£20.00 | +£19.32 | £0.68 loss |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.68 in qualifying for our free bet.
Free Bet:
We’ll receive our £10.00 free bet upon settlement of our qualifying bet. The free bet must be used via mobile towards a lay bet on the Match Odds market of Arsenal v Everton, which kicks off at 16:30 on Sunday 23rd February 2020.
This free bet works a little differently to usual free bets. When we make our selection and apply the free bet, £10.00 will be taken off our liability.
We need to place our bet on Arsenal as lower odds are best for maximising our overall profit.
At the time of writing, Arsenal are available at back odds of 2.09 (12/11) at VBET and lay odds of 2.12 on the Betfair Exchange.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator. We just need to open up the ‘Advanced’ section and use the slider to find the point at which there is a £10.00 difference between the ‘If back bet wins‘ and ‘If lay bet wins‘ totals.
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £14.96…
Place £10.00 on Arsenal @ 2.09 = Potential profit of £10.90
Lay £14.96 on Arsenal @ 2.12 = Potential liability of £16.75
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Betfair Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Arsenal win | +£10.90 | -£6.75 | £4.15 profit |
Arsenal don’t win | -£10.00 | +£14.21 | £4.21 profit |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll extract a minimum of £4.15 from our £10.00 free bet. If we take into account our maximum qualifying loss of £0.68, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.47 on this Betfair Exchange offer!
* Arsenal beat Everton 3-2 and Southampton beat Aston Villa 2-0, resulting in a profit of £3.48 on this Betfair Exchange offer. *

3I’ve got a free £10 bet ready to use tomorrow from another bookie. Would it be worth using that as my back stake for the Sunday match or will I be out of pocket?
I’ve tried the maths on the advanced calculator but it says I will only be around £5 better off either way so doesn’t seem worth using the free bet.
Matt
1532No it’s not worth using the free bet.
We need to place our Arsenal v Everton bet at low odds in order to extract the most profit, whereas free bets should be placed at high odds in order to maximise your returns.

9What about if the odds are 1.5 for instance. What would be the best strategy since to make the difference of 10 would not fully utilize the bonus?
Matt
1532Which odds are you referring to there? I’m not sure I understand the question.
Electro
9Sorry I didn’t make myself clear. I meant the Arsenal odds to use the free lay bet on. Assuming it is in play and the odds shifted to 1.5 for example or even lower for what it matters, what would be the best strategy to use the free bet?
Matt
1532You can use exactly the same strategy as outlined in the post. The lower the odds, the more cash you’ll be able to extract.
Bear in mind that this doesn’t work like a traditional free bet. When we apply the free bet, £10.00 will be deducted from your liability.

22Anyone else experiencing an issue on Betfair’s end?
In the promotion window it has the pending clock image next to “Wait for all your qualifying bets to settle” despite my qualifying bet settling over 3 hours ago (it was the Chelsea vs Spurs game).
The bonus funds have not been credited when I checked on my mobile device in any case, usually they’re a lot quicker…
Guess I’ll just continue to wait for now!
Mark
Guest userMy free lay not showing either, my bet settled 5pm, usually instant.

Guest userWhen do I get my free bet? It is not credited yet.
Matt
1532The free bet should be available to apply once you’ve selected an outcome from the Arsenal v Everton Match Odds market.
The free bet will deduct £10.00 from your liability.

Matt

Guest userI cannot place my bonus on lay bet on arsenal match. When do I place my bet? Please reply Matt.
Matt
1532You need to apply the free bet once you’ve selected an outcome from the Match Odds market Hasan.
It should then deduct £10.00 from your libaility.
Mark
Guest userAgain I used this free lay in play, with around 5 minutes to go I laid Arsenal 1.09 and cashed out for over £6.50 profit after QL.
Matt
1532Nicely done Mark!
