Hey, I did the 4/1 racing offer on the final race yesterday which paid out on Enrilo First past the post, but was since disqualified on stewards enquiry (and no liability on betfair, woo!)

Will this still qualify as a risk free bet for next weekends first 4/1 racing offer race do you know, given the payout and “win” from first past the post?

  I can’t say for certain James, but I can’t see anything in the terms to suggest that you won’t qualify. It’s been paid as a ‘winner’ so you should be fine.

Quick question about the Bet365 ITV bets offer.

If I win on the last ITV bet a Saturday (3:45 at Curragh), do I have to wait for the next ITV races or can I get a risk free bet on the first of the Sunday feature races.

I was up last night to 4am copying offers. I had one that was 32Red ‘Bet £10, Get £5’ at odds of 1.5 or more on horse racing. Is it by invite only as I cannot find it in promotions?

Hi Matt

I have a question about extra places. I bet on Sunday’s 13.30 Goodwood on Attorney (Sky Bet offered 5 places instead of 3) using a matched betting calculator that showed a profit, whatever the outcome. If I bet £15 ew (total £30) on odds of 6 and lay odds 6.8 and place lay of 2.4.

Attorney came 2nd. I ended up losing around £45.

I rechecked everything and the amounts wagered and layed were as per the calculator. Please can you advise me on what I am not understanding about this?

  I’ve plugged those numbers into my Each Way Calculator, and I don’t see how that’s happened. The qualifying loss is a little on the large side compared to the potential extra place profit, but at least there were two extra places to hit.
  
  I think I would need to see what bets you’ve placed to try and fathom what’s happened, as those numbers don’t add up. Feel free to send screenshots to matt@matchedbettingblog.com, and I’ll take a look for you.

    Hi Matt, thanks I have worked out what I did wrong.
    
    1. I used the tool on matched bets. Which pre-populates the calculator with the relevant figures, except for one crucial element missing when you use it for Sky Bet namely the 1/5 payout.
    
    2. I had used it 4 times (not realising this) hence my place lays were wrong. However, on 3 of those occasions, I made a profit, only when the horse placed on my 4th attempt did I make the loss.
    
    Net result profit of £20 over the 4 times I used it, but purely by accident.
    
    I have to say unless you bet on every horse in a race I don’t see how you make a profit on extra places if you lay them (unless by chance, or in my case idiocy)?

      I’m pleased to hear you’ve figured out where things went wrong. I’m unfamiliar with that calculator, but you can trust mine if you want to try it.
      
      The key thing with extra places is to keep your qualifying losses low. Naturally, you won’t hit the extra place most of the time, but as long as you’re only losing small amounts, you should be well in profit when you do hit the extra places.

I believe FaFa have now changed their offer to 50% of your stake back if 2nd to the favourite and not 50% back if second.

This may be a change to just my terms and conditions but you may want to check this.

Hi Matt, great blog – has really helped me get started with matched betting. I’ve started venturing out from the usual bet/get offers and have been attracted by “Money back if 2nd or 3rd” type offers. Over the last two days I noticed Betfred is making such offers but on races I can’t find on Smarkets or Betfair so can’t judge true odds or lay. Is one of the exchanges better at covering US horse racing than the others? Please let me know – many thanks in advance.

  Betfair tend to cover more overseas horse racing than Smarkets, so that’s the best place to check.
  
  Recently, I’ve noticed the selected races for this offer have been getting more obscure and have not been covered by the exchanges. In that instance, it’s best to skip the offer and move onto other opportunities elsewhere. I’ve amended the Tips section of the post to that effect.

  That’s correct. You only get the £5 free bet if your qualifying bet wins. The offer is actually available on any sport, not just horse racing.
