It’s entirely up to you which horse you go for, but it would make sense to select a horse with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th placed finish. Having looked at the odds on offer, I’ve opted to keep my qualifying loss to a minimum and place my qualifying bet on the favourite Milan Bound.
Place £25.00 on Milan Bound @ 3.50 = Potential profit of £62.50
Lay £23.65 on Milan Bound @ 3.75 = Potential liability of £65.04
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…

| Milan Bound places 2nd 3rd or 4th | -£25.00 + £22.47 + £20.00 (extract 80% from our £25.00 free bet) = £17.47 profit |
| Milan Bound places outside top 4 | -£25.00 + £22.47 = £2.53 loss |
So if Milan Bound finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the 1:50 at Newbury, we will make £17.47 profit. Unfortunately, we also stand to lose a maximum of £2.54 on any other result, but as Milan Bound is a horse that should be finishing in the top 4, I’m happy to let this one run as the potential profit far outweighs the potential loss, making this a profitable offer in the long run.
