Simply opt in and bet £10.00+ on a player to win the Golden Boot and Sky Bet will give us a £3.00 free bet every time our player scores a goal! Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £79.40 and here’s how…

Strategy
It’s entirely up to you, but my advice is to not lay this particular offer. This is because the back and lay markets are not like-for-like.
The Golden Boot is won by the player who scores the most goals during the tournament. If more than one player is tied for the lead, the award is given to the player with the most assists. If more than one player is still tied for the lead, the award is given to the player who played the least amount of minutes.
This means the Golden Boot Winner market at Sky Bet and the Top Goalscorer market at Smarkets vary slightly, meaning you could lose both bets and record a heavy loss.
Say, for example, you place your back and lay bets on Harry Kane and he ties with Romelu Lukaku for the Golden Boot. If Lukaku made more assists, he would win the Golden Boot ahead of Harry Kane. In this instance, your back bet at Sky Bet would lose and dead heat rules would apply to your lay bet at Smarkets, resulting in a sizeable loss.
If you’re comfortable not laying your qualifying bet, your selected player should hopefully score enough goals to cover a decent chunk of your qualifying stake. If you’re not comfortable though, there’s nothing wrong with leaving this offer altogether and looking for other opportunities.
UPDATE: It’s possible to lay a handful of players to win the Golden Boot at Matchbook. At the time of writing they have markets available for Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe.
Qualifying bet
It’s entirely up to you which player you go for. At the time of writing, Romelu Lukaku is available at back odds of 7.50 (13/2).
Place £10.00 on Romelu Lukaku @ 7.50 = Potential profit of £65.00
Free bets
We’ll receive a £3.00 free bet for every goal scored by our selected player. Free bets will be credited by 19:00 the following day and will not be subject to an expiry. Free bet stakes will not be included in any returns.
If Romelu Lukaku scores 6 goals in the tournament, we’ll receive £18.00 in free bets.
Using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to convert our free bets into 80% cash, so £14.40. If we take into account our potential qualifying profit of £65.00, this gives us a potential profit of £79.40 on this Sky Bet offer!
* Romelu Lukaku scored 4 goals as Cristiano Ronaldo won the Golden Boot, resulting in a loss of £0.40 on this Sky Bet offer. *

Guest userI’ve heard that you can lay this on matchbook, because they use the same rules as the bookies? Not sure if this is true though, need to verify it.

Guest userI don’t think that’s true – just looked at the Matchbook rules and it says: “UEFA Euro 2020 – Top Goalscorer: If two or more players tie for the highest number of goals scored during the Competition, this market will be settled as a Dead Heat.”

You can lay golden boot.
Matt
1490Thanks for posting Lee.

Guest userI am a little confused here. What is the difference between Golden Boot winner and top goalscorer? If a player is the top goalscorer isn’t it the same? Then if it’s a tie for top goalscorer where do your back and lay bets stand? Any advice for this would be great… Thanks.
Steve55
Guest userOkay… I get the dead heat rule.
Matt
1490Don’t worry Steve, it can be a little confusing at first. The difference between the two arises out of the fact that the Golden Boot has extra determining factors in the event of a tie. The award won’t be shared.
Mike
Guest userNow we know it can be layed, would you still go for the punt? I’ve got Lukaku at 7.5, Matchbook have him at 9.2.
Or just let it ride and hope he wins it.
Matt
1490It’s entirely up to the individual really Mike. Some don’t mind taking small risks and others prefer to play it safe. There’s no right or wrong way of playing it, so long as you’re comfortable with your approach.

0Ok, looks like I jumped the gun and placed a lay bet against Ronaldo…
Any thoughts on how to rectify this will be greatly appreciated!!!
Sky Bet are offering a cash out on my Golden Boot winner (Ronaldo) £88.80, therefore £78.80 profit.
Should I take the Trade out offered on Smarkets, this states “LOSS £33.11”
By doing this will I still make a profit of £45.69 or am I misunderstanding this completely!?!?
Matt
1490Yes that sounds correct to me. You’re locking in your profit at Sky Bet and your loss at Smarkets.
