The Cheltenham Festival 2020 gets underway on Tuesday and you don’t want to miss this William Hill Money Back Special! Simply place a bet on any race and if our horse finishes 2nd, William Hill will refund our stake as cash, up to £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us an overall potential profit of £50.00+ and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- Available from 00:01 on Monday 2nd March 2020 until 17:30 on Friday 13th March 2020.
- First bet qualifies on the Race Winner market only.
- Selection must be settled at odds of 4.00 (3/1) or greater.
- A minimum of 4 horses must run in the race.
- If our horse finishes 2nd, our stake will be refunded as cash, up to £10.00 per race.
Qualifying Bets:
This offer is available on all 28 races at the Cheltenham Festival 2020.
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
The back and lay odds should tighten up as the start of the festival gets nearer. In the meantime, I’ll use fictional lay odds for Shishkin (4/1) in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (13:30 on Tuesday) and I’ll update the table at the bottom of the post with some actual selections at the end of each day.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Betfair is likely to give us the smallest qualifying loss.
Betfair are currently offering new customers 0% commission up to £500 for the first 30 days.
If you’re an existing Betfair customer, you can opt in to pay just 2% commission by selecting their Basic reward plan.
For more information about My Betfair Rewards and how to opt in, please see my Betfair 2% Commission page.
We can work out our lay stake using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.65…
Place £10.00 on Shishkin @ 5.00 = Potential profit of £40.00
Lay £9.65 on Shishkin @ 5.20 = Potential liability of £40.53
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Cashback | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
Shishkin wins | +£40.00 | -£40.53 | £0.53 loss | |
Shishkin finishes 2nd | -£10.00 | +£9.45 | +£10.00 | £9.45 profit |
Any other outcome | -£10.00 | +£9.45 | £0.55 loss |
So, we would make a nice profit of £9.45 if Shishkin finishes 2nd and we would stand to lose a maximum of £0.55 on any other outcome. Risking £0.55 to make a profit of £9.45 gives us effective odds of 18.18, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
This offer is available on all 28 races at the Cheltenham Festival 2020, giving us an overall potential profit of £50.00+ on this William Hill offer!
If eligible, cash refunds will be credited as soon as possible, however, allow 24 hours in the event of any technical difficulties.
I’ll update the following table with some actual selections at the end of each day…
Race | Selection | Back Odds | Lay Odds | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
14:50 Tuesday | Discorama | 8.00 | 8.20 | -£0.42 |
15:30 Tuesday | Cilaos Emery | 8.50 | 8.60 | -£0.29 |
16:10 Wednesday | Easysland | 4.00 | 4.30 | -£0.85 |

11Can you place a bet on this and the first race each way offer? Also would it be possible to post a guide to that each way offer?
Matt
1533Are you referring to the ‘Paying 7 places instead of 3‘ offer?
If you place an each way bet, the ‘Money back if 2nd‘ offer would apply to the ‘Win‘ part of your each way bet.
Please see my Extra Place Offers guide for a walk-through of how they should be done.

1533Thanks for flagging that up Bill, it’s been a long day… Updated!
Pat
Guest userIs it possible to use the William Hill bet boost when you make the qualifying bet? Or will this void the offer?
Oli
Guest userIt has worked fine with odds boosted on betslip for me in the past. Just don’t pick any specials or boosts offered by William Hill.
Matt
1533I think that’s okay Pat.
