There’s a big day of racing at Doncaster on Friday and you don’t want to miss this Paddy Power money back offer! Simply place a bet of up to £10.00 on the 14:15 at Doncaster and if our horse finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, Paddy Power will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £7.25 and here’s how…
Key terms
- We must place our bet between 17:00 on Thursday 4th March 2021 and 14:15 (race-off) on Friday 5th March 2021.
- Offer applies to the win market and the win part of each way bets only.
- If less than 7 runners take part, this offer will revert to money back if 2nd.
- If our horse finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, Paddy Power will refund our stake as a free bet, up to £10.00.
Qualifying bet
If you’d like more information about qualifying bets and how they work, please see my qualifying bets guide.
It’s entirely up to you which horse you go for, but it would make sense to select a horse with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th place finish.
At the time of writing, the back and lay odds aren’t quite tight enough. Laskadine is favourite to win the race at back odds of 2.625 (13/8). I’ll use lay odds of 2.80 to illustrate how this offer works and I’ll update the bottom of this post after the race with a genuine selection.
We can calculate our lay stakes using my Matched Betting Calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.44…
Place £10.00 on Laskadine @ 2.625 = Potential profit of £16.25
Lay £9.44 on Laskadine @ 2.80 = Potential liability of £16.99
Outcomes
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
So, we’ll make a nice profit of £7.25 if Laskadine finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th and we stand to lose a maximum of £0.75 on any other outcome. Risking £0.75 to make a profit of £7.25 gives us effective odds of 10.67, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
If eligible, free bets will be credited within 2 hours of the race ending and will be valid on any horse racing market for 7 days.
If you’re unsure how to convert your £10.00 free bet into £8.00 cash (80%), please see my free bets guide for a walkthrough of how it should be done.
* Laskadine was available at back odds of 3.50 and lay odds of 3.65. Laskadine finished 4th, resulting in a profit of £7.44 on this Paddy Power offer. *

Guest userHi Matt, hope you’re well.
Can you provide any advice on when/how to find tight odds?
I’m very much a beginner on horses with not much knowledge about how and when odds move. Last time I tried this PP offer I saw the lay odds dip right before the race (for the favourite).
On this occasion they shot up by a whole 1.0!
It was very tough to find a gap as in the example above. Any help would be most welcome.
Thank you!
Matt
1529Hi Michael, I’m good thanks.
It’s really a case of checking throughout the day if you can’t find a suitable match.
Generally speaking though, the closer to the off (start of the race) the better as that’s when most regular punters will be placing their bets. I checked about 5 minutes before the off and the favourite was back odds of 3.50 and lay odds of 3.65, which is pretty good.
The examples in the posts are just guides, so don’t worry too much. Sometimes you’ll find better odds and other times you’ll have to take a larger qualifying loss. These money back offers from Paddy Power are pretty generous, so you can afford to take a bigger qualifying loss if you need to.
Hope that helps.

Guest userThanks Matt. Will deffo be checking throughout the day next time. Today’s big lesson from your words above and my experience was to back and lay at the same time, rather than back when I think the odds are high and hope for a nice low lay bet to be available later.
And yes you’re right, the generosity of the offer and Laskadine coming in 4th saved my bacon today!
Matt
1529Yes from a matched betting point of view you should always back and lay at the same time. Otherwise you’re gambling on the lay odds and it could easily go the wrong way.
