Totally confused about Doubles and Trebles!

  • This is not a matched betting query but rather a straight forward gambling one.

I had a very small amout of money in my Paddy Power account and decided to place a tiny bet on a two event accumulator.

I chose two horse races taking place this afternoon and bet £ 1.25 each way on both horses.

Just before I confirmed the bet the estimated return if I win was displayed inside the Multiples box and I am sure it was around £ 30+

I logged in a couple of hours ago and see that the 1st horse Won and the second horse Placed 2nd but the return was only £ 4.32.

I am a total newbie when it comes to doing this but I am struggling to understand why I expected to win a lot more based on Paddy Power’s “potential returns” figure of £ 30+.

Please can someone explain where I have gone wrong?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

You placed an each way double, which is essentially two separate double bets.

You bet £1.25 on both horses to win, which lost.

You also bet £1.25 on both horses to place, which won.

The potential returns would have been a lot higher on the ‘Win’ double than the ‘Place double.

A frustrating outcome for you but I hope that helps.
