It’s RB Leipzig v Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday night and you don’t want to miss this First Goal Wins offer from Betway! Simply bet up to £20.00 on RB Leipzig or Tottenham to win the match and if our selected team scores first, Betway will pay us out as a winner, in cash, no matter the final result! Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £101.65 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- Maximum qualifying stake of £20.00.
- Qualifying single bets must be placed on RB Leipzig or Tottenham in the Win/Draw/Win market.
- Qualifying bets must be placed before 20:00 (kick-off) on Tuesday 10th March 2020.
- If our selected team score first, Betway will pay our bet out in cash, within 10 minutes.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Tottenham in the Win/Draw/Win market.
If Tottenham score first, Betway will pay our bet out as a winner, within 10 minutes.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Betfair gives us the smallest qualifying loss.
Betfair are currently offering new customers 0% commission up to £500 for the first 30 days.
If you’re an existing Betfair customer, you can opt in to pay just 2% commission by selecting their Basic reward plan.
For more information about My Betfair Rewards and how to opt in, please see my Betfair 2% Commission page.
We can calculate our lay stake using my Early Payout Calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £16.99…
Place £20.00 on Tottenham @ 5.25 = Potential profit of £85.00
Lay £16.99 on Tottenham @ 6.20 = Potential liability of £88.35
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Tottenham score first and win | +£85.00 | -£88.35 | £3.35 loss |
Tottenham score first and don’t win | +£85.00 | +£16.65 | £101.65 profit |
Tottenham don’t score first and win | +£85.00 | -£88.35 | £3.35 loss |
Tottenham don’t score first and don’t win | -£20.00 | +£16.65 | £3.35 loss |
So, if Tottenham score first and go on to draw or lose the game, we’ll receive cash returns of £105.00, giving us a profit of £85.00 at Betway. We’ll also win £16.65 from our lay bet at Betfair, giving us an overall potential profit of £101.65!
Any other outcome and we’ll lose £3.35. Risking £3.35 to make a profit of £101.65, gives us effective odds of 31.34, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
If eligible, our cash winnings will be credited within 10 minutes of the first goal being scored, but allow up to 24 hours.
Lock in a Profit:
If Tottenham score first, you can either let it run as above or place an extra back bet on them to lock in a profit.
If you decide to lock in a profit, you just need to select the bookmaker has paid out early toggle on the calculator above.
We can then enter the back odds at the same exchange we used to place our original lay bet.
Let’s use odds of 1.50 as an example…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £70.23, which gives us a guaranteed profit of £31.76, regardless of the outcome!
* RB Leipzig scored first and went on to win the match 3-0, resulting in a loss of £3.35 on this Betway offer. *

Guest userHi Matt :o)
Forgive me, but if this bet is placed by Betfair & you want to ‘lock in’ a profit, then isn’t it just easier to cash-out, rather than placing another bet?
I don’t think Smarkets offer cash-out do they? So it would be the right method for them.
Thanks :o) x
Matt
1490Hi Jen,
Cashing out at the exchange is fine, as long your qualifying bet is the only bet you have placed on that market. If you have placed bets for other offers, these would be cashed out too, so just bear that in mind.
Smarkets also offer ‘Trade Out’ by the way.
Hope that helps!
