The Masters!

  • as a bit of a golf fan I’ll be having a flutter on this regardless, however this will be my first year as a matched better.

I’ve spotted sky are offering 8 places, which is fairly impressive. Looks like on betfair you can lay for a top 5 finish, so we would be able to apply the same principle as horse racing extra places? I.e hope for a 6,7,8 finish in order to win both bets.

Any one else spotted any offers on or tend to bet on the golf and have a strategy they’ll be going for?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Just because there is an extra place offer doesn’t seem to always mean there is a way to make money off it. It very much depends on the odds – and in golf with the exception of the top few favourites the back and lay odds are pretty far apart.

I suppose Dustin Johnson is 18/1 to win on Sky (1/4 odds => 5.5 to place) and can lay for 22.0 to win and 5.8 to place on betfair.

So a £20 e/w bet and laying both win and place market on betfair would cost you £5.33 qualifying loss and you would get £104.62 if he places 6,7 or 8 (bookie pays out but you don’t pay out your lay – you keep the lay stakes).

So effectively 18/1 to finish 6th, 7th or 8th. Which is quaint because he is the same (18/1) to win. I would guess some value here as the extra places bet give you three positions that he can finish in and he is probably more likely to finish in any one of them than to finish 1st.

Anyway, don’t know a whole bunch about golf either so not really able to estimate if this is a good bet. How likely do you think he is to finish 6th, 7th or 8th?

If you like to bet on golf and are having a punt regardless I would have a look at him for an each way shot and hopefully take advantage of the extra places.

Aswell as finishing 6th, 7th or 8th. There’s scenarios where he could be tied for say 5th with 2 others. Your skybet place would win and you’d only lose 1/3 of your exchange lay.

Some decent close odds on this actually…like fog said not always great on golf but for this there are some good ones. I got a £3 qaulifying loss on a £25 each way bet

Lots of value with this on sky.

For example, with Day you can get almost 33/1 on him coming 7th or 8th:

Or could take 6,7,8 at lower odds (higher quailifying loss):

What would happen though if half a dozen or more players tied 5th? Youd wouldnt get the full value from your e/w bet but im not sure if youd lose the full ammount at the exchange?

Well if say 4 players tied 5th, then skybet would pay out the ew part in full as they are top 8, but dead heat rules would apply on the exchange so you’d be quids in.
