Another Saturday another smarkets meltdown

  • No surprise really but its been terrible today. Still waiting for bets to settle on a race that finished 30 minutes ago.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Losing patience with Smarkets. No liquidity earlier for the Ch4 races either. Might give Matchbook a crack..

Yep. Also losing it will smarkets. I lost £60 on an EW arb when I should have quarenteed £20, as all liquidity disappeared before the race so I couldn’t lay the bets off. I understand why Beesty uses Betfair despite the commission disadvantage.

Lads I honestly don’t know why ye bother. There’s no point penny pinching with Smarkets and then losing out like that. I only use them for big events or other events in good time.

This site is deadly to use at the weekends. Especially during Saturday afternoons. Betfair is a must. OK for evenings or the odd weekday when only two or three race meetings.

Apart from the odd glitch in markets being halted for no reason during football matches. I don’t appear to be getting any of the issues others seem to be having. Ok, so I’m not doing much in play stuff, and I don’t wait till till the last minute to get my bets on, but I’m finding smarkets to be fine.

If you think they are bad, you should have been around in the early days of Betfair. Having to deal with dial up internet speeds, Crashes every day, (or so it seemed), customer service a nightmare to get hold of, bets not being settled for up to 6 hours etc etc.

Compared to the early days of Betfair, smarkets are doing exceptionally well imo.

Strangely I actually found them better yesterday than usual. Didn’t have any problems doing all the Chanel Four races. Having said that I’m not a big hitter, £50 will usually be the biggest bet I will have made at the bookies that I need to lay at smarkets so that probably makes a difference.

I think if your trying to do some of the big bets for each way arbing that beasty does then BF is almost certainly a better option, but if your just doing straight forward MBing then the difference using smarkets makes is significant to your bottom line. Having said that I am sure I would change my mind if problems with smarkets resulted in me having to swallow a big loss.

One thing I did notice yesterday that I’ve never seen before was how slow they were to withdraw non runners.

Funny you mentioned that deathstar, I noticed the Saturday the week before they were very slow to withdraw non runners too. I had not noticed this in the past, so I am not sure if this is something new, or if I just hadn’t taken spotted it before.

Case in point: today in the 17:10 at Chepstow 10. Culm Counsellor was withdrawn at 15.41 according to oddschecker, it has just been withdrawn on smarkets at 16.14.
    fantastic work.
