betfair exchange

  • I currently just use smarkets as my exchange, is signing up to the betfair exchange best way to lay priceboost accas etc?

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Cheers! They pretty strict on them? Do price boosts normally guarantee profit? I’ve never layed as an Acca before

Only speaking for myself but still haven’t signed up for smarkets yet. Most folks seem to say there’s not much liquidity there compared to betfair. Matt promotes them due to their 2% commission but I have been with betfair for so long they only charge me 2% now. Hoping to get it down to 1% soon. Just remember to adjust your calculations to 5% commission if you sign up

I’m now using smarkets following advice from this forum, especially due to PP gubbing. The liquidity isn’t great but for me the main issue is its a bloody pain to navigate around and on my mobile often messes me around saying I’m not logged in when I am.

Betfair in comparison is far slicker, but I guess that’s why you pay the extra 3%!!! If it wasn’t for the PP issues I’d go back to betfair.

    Maybe once I get gubbed……!

Patrick. Have you ever read any of Matts blog posts? He mentions all the time they only charge 2%. I always look at them before betfair as over a number of bets there has to be quite a saving. Think it’s a saving of 64p per £20 lay.

Patrick is talking about Mike’s comment that he only pays 2% at bf (not smarkets)… I would also be shocked if Mike is only paying 2% at bf. In order to have your commission that low you’d need to be betting £10,000s per week.

Yes. No way you’re on a 60% discount rate with Betfair. You’d have to be paying a serious wedge in commission every week to get to that level.

Also, 60% discount is the max. So 2% commission is the lowest you’d ever pay. You can’t get down to 1%.

Pickle you should read what I said.
I was referring to Mike j’s assertion that he only pays 2% commision on Betfair.
As Mark has confirmed it is impossible unless he was losing thousands a week.If he was winning thousands a week he would be paying far more than 5% as he would be in the extra commission bracket.

What Mike j has probably seen is he is receiving a 3% discount on his commission charge of 5%.
This means he is paying 4.85% commission not 2%.

On the surface a difference in commission between 5% and 2% does not seem much but if you do the math over a reasonable number of transactions the difference in profit can be huge. Many people don’t realise how much extra profit they could be getting by using Smarkets wherever possible.

I do agree though that liquidity can be a problem with Smarkets and also the site can be very unreliable on a busy Saturday afternoon. Trying to get in play lays on footie matches on a Saturday can be really hard work with the site freezing and so on.

I think Smarkets have been performing a lot better these last couple of weeks. They’ve been doing a lot of work on improving the site and upgraded things earlier this month.

Also Mike, just to echo what Patrick said, it sounds like you are getting a 2% discount rate on the standard 5%, so 5% * 0.98 = 4.9%. To be getting a 60% discount rate you would need to be earning over 150,000 Betfair points and trading five figure sums of money on a daily basis.

I was reluctant at first to move from betfair to Smarkets as I had been so comfortable using betfair for over half a year I didn’t see the point in changing, but I am glad I did. Half the time I notice no difference at all in the liquidity football odds are usually exactly the same and same with horses. Only difference I notice is with horses a few hours before there will be more traded on betfair but odds are usually awful at that time anyway. I to was getting about a 3/4% discount on betfairs commission so was still paying around 4.7% (cant remember exactly) and therefore agree Mike must have thought this was his actual commission, a mistake quite a few people have made before understandable I guess! But with regards to signing up to Betfair Exchange? I assume this means you don’t have a betfair account at all? As they are running some good promo’s such as the double odds correct score and the horse racing 3/1 SP Winner. I would definitely have both though mainly as you said Betfair still offers a hell of a lot markets that Smarkets doesn’t and therefore some of the enhanced offers bookies do ie A team to win by 3 or more goals you need Betfair in order to lay this, and Sky Acca’s for example are easily laid on betfair!
