Do bookmakers send mail to physical address? Proof of address to subscribe?

  • Hello, I’m a foreigner that has been in UK for the last 4 months.
I’m actually long-term travelling here, so I don’t have a fixed address, and I’ll go back to my country (Italy) in the next few weeks. But I do have a UK bank account, NINO number etc. connected with the address of a friend in UK.
I was thinking of signing up to the bookmakers with his address, since it’s coinciding with my bank account address and would make things easier.
I would prefer not to tell him, because it might look a little bit fishy to people that don’t know matched betting, or in any case if I do tell him I would like to make sure that his mail box is not going to be spammed.
    1) Do you receive any printed mail to your home address from any of the many bookmakers on the market, or maybe a summary of your win and loss?
Or maybe a letter with a verification code when you sign up or anything else?
    2) I read the terms and conditions of some bookmakers and they require you to be a UK resident. I’m and I’ve been in the UK for longer than 4 months, but I don’t have fiscal residency here.
What documents will the bookmakers require to verify my account? Are my bank statement, and maybe a copy of my NINO number sent to that address enough? I don’t have any utility bills nor rent contract on my name and my ID and passport are Italian.
    Thank you!

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

bank statement and passport should be fine, a lot of bookies have one offer per address on their t&c’s so you should check that your friend does not want to take advantage before using their address, also you may find it difficult using uk bookies sites if you are overseas, they may be blocked in your region although a vpn may get around this. i think i have have some posted mail before from ladbrokes but i don’t think i have had anything from elsewhere.

Thank you, I didn’t consider that the promotions would be limited at one per address, and as far as I understand from your words it’s so for the vast majority of the bookies.
So in this case I should ask him, clearly.
What about people that have no family links sharing an apartment or even people in the same block of flats that have the same address except for the apartment number?

The only physical mail I’ve ever had is from various bingo sites when I first started and was signing up to loads, so I’m not sure who it was that sold my address. never from a bookmaker. also there’s usually an opt out where you choose how they contact you (text, email etc) so you can uncheck the box for mail.

you would be ok with a flat with a different number. bookies have been know to ban people who live on a university campus, for example, as they have the same address.

I would be more concerned about the passport problem. Have a look at a few bookies to see what they accept. I only have passport and bank account in my name so I know that is enough, but without them, I don’t think a NINO or work permit or visa or whatever would be accepted.
