Laying SP bets
-
So I’ve been gubbed at Racebets halfway through my welcome bonus.
I put £30 of my £50 bonus on a horse at fixed odds, layed it, and then realised the stake may actually be returned. Foolishly I headed into the help-chat to find out. not 10 minutes after asking I received an email telling me my account is no longer available for fixed odds bets, but that I can still “take full advantage of SP bets”
So, best case scenario I have £20 to lose from the account, worst case £200 if the horse wins.
I’m not sure what an SP bet is, or if it’s possible to lay it (my qualifier for this offer was my first ever bet on a horse). Could someone give me some tips on how to proceed with this bonus now that I’m banned from fixed-odds bets? thanks

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I do find it amusing that they restricted you from fixed-odds, yet you don’t know what SP is. Normally bookies will restrict you from placing fixed-odds bets if they believe you are a knowledgeable/profitable punter – SP odds (the odds at the off) should be reflective of true probabilities and, as such, bookies aren’t afraid of taking bets at this price.
In order to lay at starting prices, you would need to know what the SP odds are… You have to wait until the race begins to know this, so you can either lay momentarily before the off or do it in-play – the problem with backing at SP and trying to lay is normally you will be taking higher than normal losses. Either way, be careful.
+0Thanks mark, luckily my horse didn’t win, so I’ve already made £30 on the offer with another £20 in the account. Sounds a bit out of my depth to try to back and lay whilst the race is underway, I may just punt the remaining £20… avoid ending up with any exchange losses and a large amount in the bookie account that I’m not sure on how to get rid of
