Near Misses and Lucky Wins

  • For no other reason than to moan about a loss or brag about a win….

Last night was let down by 1.2 shot (Videoton, which was only put in for acca insurance) on a speculative 25-1 coupon for £400.

On a brighter note just backed and laid the wrong horse at 8-1 for £40… didnt notice until my balance updated by £300 (could have been a disaster if the one I actually wanted to had won).

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Last sunday Bet Victor boosted Hamilton to win by 10 seconds or more to 4.0. Betfair had a lay market winning margin 10 seconds or more 3.2.

Max bet was £50 so I put two accounts on it, I was about to post this on the forum and realized i’d made such a rookie error!

Bet Victor had no cash out so i was unsure whether to let run and hope either Hamilton won or someone else did by less than 10 seconds for £18 or risk losing around £300ish.

Lucky hamilton won! – goes to show mistakes can be made and they can be costly.

One of the most annoying (and stupid) things I’ve done was to try to cash out of a Hills bet.

I’d bet on Dandy Mag (I think) in a high five event. I’d laid off for a small qualifying loss.

Then the odds at the exchange drifted but the Hills odds had come in a bit, Hills cash out said I could get pretty well my entire stake back and I could cashout Betfair for £60 profit. I (rookie error) cashed out at betfair and then went to cash out at Hills, when I clicked the amount to cash out it updated and went from returning my entire stake to £60 quid down. I looked on Betfair to see if I could lay again but it had continued to drift. So I cashed out at Hills (it was £80 down by then). Overall a £20 quid loss.

He went off at a longer SP than I had bet on at Hills (so I would have got bog) and won by more than 5 lengths. So I managed to prize a £20 loss from the jaws of a £150ish profit!

I won £500 on south park slot machine using up a casino bonus I wasn’t even going to bother using. Remains my one and only slot machine win above a few pence.

    Excellent 3

I was betting on Betfred bet 3 in play get £25 free bet next day. I was on the 3rd bet and using mobile as I can never get the website to work on my computer. Instead of betting £25 at about 1.6 I clicked bet all bu mistake and placed a bet of around £520. Unfortunately the odds went up at betfair and I was facing a hefty loss of £100. I waited until and odds got closer and got away with a loss of £20. But if I’d left it the bet would have come in after all. I recovered the £20 on the free bet the next day.

Bet £150 on See the Master at Nottingham today for the 2Clear offer at 3.0. Was laying at 3.05 so stuck my lay in at 3.0 expecting a full match. Went to a meeting at work which was supposed to finish way before the race started but didnt, horse drifted to 3.75 but won so I had a lovely £412 profit. Won by 1.75 lengths so I was also unlucky not to get an additional £62 free bet.

I was on See the Master too for 2 clear. Eased down at the line to fast finishers…would have been close if he had ridden it out. Had a nice wee punt on it too though.

Nice to see I’m not the only one persevering with 2 Clear. Small fields (preferably over a mile) and a close match and you can hit one every couple of days.

I’ve not made too many costly mistakes thankfully but have been close a couple of times. The most costly would have been on a basketball game when I was doing the Tonybet sign up offer. I thought I’d spotted a great price on Chicago Bulls to win at 4.0, laying at around 3.8, I wanted to clear the sign up offer as soon as possible so stuck my account balance of £300 on and went to bed to await the result in the morning.

Anyway, I was nodding off when it struck me – the Betfair market only had 2 options but the Tonybet had 3 – 1X2. I suddenly realised that if the Bulls won in overtime both my back bet and lay bet would lose and I’d be down £1,200. Suffice to say I didn’t sleep and ended up watching the whole game on my laptop. Bulls won in normal time quite comfortably in the end but the lesson is always to double check your bets. I also ended up getting stake restricted and had to play through an even bigger balance as well so it wasn’t really worth it anyway.

I’ve had a few horses drift out before as well between placing my back bet and lay bet but I tend to just let these ride as in my experience the ones that drift are offset by the ones where the price goes the other way anyway.

My biggest win to date was on a horse called Seymour Star some time in Jan. Did an EW arb at 50/1, underlaid the place but then the win odds drifted to 90.0 or something, so I let the win side ride. Lead from start to finish winning me a cool £500+, haven’t topped that since. Biggest mistakes usually also come from not laying the win side of EW arbs, but they tend to even themselves out over time.

bobb I think I’m averaging about £70 in free bets a week on 2Clear. There are certain courses that are great for it.

Today had a very lucky day. 4:00 gowran park had 100 ew on numbers 1,3 and 10 at 11/1, 12/1 and 14/1. Anyway laid the win off but betfair crashed 3 mins before the race and was down for 15 mins. Couldn’t fund smarkets so had to ride it out. Was cheering just one to come in top 3 so I wasn’t down. Anyway watched the race and could not believe I hit 1st, 2nd and 4th.

Also Thursday there was a void race at Killarney. Was annoyed as thought I was 80 up from ew arbing but didn’t work out. Anyway one bookie chose to pay out as a winner so that was another 270.

Equally unlucky moments can happen last week lost 80 due to a late withdrawal in a 16 runner handicap. Luckily I had enough time to sort it out and take the loss. Horse came 4th.

In terms of mistakes last year I double laid a horse at 20/1 so was about 400 down from a race as a result.

    Lucky escape there at WH

Stuck £500 on the fav at 1.8 about a minute before the off as the lay price was about 1.81/1.82 and slowly moving down… within seconds it was up to about 1.96!!!

Panicked and layed about £300 at 1.95 instead of going in play where it was immediately went 1.75.

Wins by 2 1/4L so made small profit on win and hit £50 FB

I was also on Regulator bbobb 😉 Disappointed the jockey wasnt Warren G.

Nothing since though which is disappointing as Ayr is usually good for 2Clear. Guess the ground isnt good.

Made the mistake of not backing the fav (like I normally do) in the first at ascot for 2Clear.

    Fav wins by 2 1/4L

No mistakes in the 2M race.

2 Clear and 2nd to Fav at Betstars.

Even managed to back UAE King at 3.1 in play 🙂

Tried to lay that last winner in running at a silly odds on price but just missed getting on.

It will surely lose it in the stewards room.
