I know that each way bets see the place terms drop to 2 places if 8 runners go to 7 runners, but does the same apply to the place only market?
If I back a horse to place with a bookmaker in an 8 field race and it goes to 7 or less runners, will the bet change to 2 places only?

I’d let it lie, Johnbo. My experience is that the place bets are reduced in the same way as E/W bets on bookies’ sites. Making trouble is just asking for a gubbing, and they wouldn’t pay out even if you proved there was an error, at best they’d refund your stake, but probably not even that. Without matched betting there’s no real concept of “consequential loss” in sports betting.
