Access when traveling

  • I’m going to be out of the country at the end of the week but will still need to get my MB fix. Any views on whether I’m likely to have issues getting my bets on with foreign wifi? Am I likely to get blocked or is simply being a UK resident enough to permit access from anywhere?

Don’t want midweek qualifying losses if I can’t access my freebies.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Depends where you’re going and if the bookmaker operates there I think. VPN might work.

To elaborate, I tried getting on a coral offer a few weeks ago while in France and it wouldn’t let me. Faffed about with VPN for a bit but I had hardware issues and the whole thing became more trouble than it was worth. Should be doable on VPN though.

Just back from USA, where my iphone VPN failed to let me access any of the bookies I tried. The only site I could get on was Betfair, bizarrely. This was handy though, as their feed on the basketball game I was at in person was at least 30 seconds behind the live action, so I thought I was going to be in for a treat by whacking my balance on the winning team, had the game been finely balance in the last minute. Unfortunately, one team was 20 points ahead by then 🙁

I am not tech savvy enough to know if you get ‘better’ VPNs than others, so perhaps if you can then you will have more success than I did. If not, take the week off – it is quite liberating not placing and laying bets constantly, honest! 😉

albatross – I just spent 3 weeks in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. VyprVPN (about $10 a month) worked great on my iPad for all the betting sites I went on (B365, Unibet, Sky, Ladbrokes, Coral, WillHill (but not the iPhone app) and a couple of others, as well as Betfair and Smarkets). I’d tried IPVanish beforehand, but wasn’t impressed with it. Vypr is very easy to use (I’m not tech savvy), and the connection was always solid. That said, when I went on ‘whatsmyIPaddress’ it came up as in the Netherlands, even though it said I was connected to the UK. So I presume there are better ones out there. Keep us updated as to how you get on.

Yup, I use a VPN while traveling. Even if I travel as far as 1 hour away.

In addition to the added security and privacy, I use a VPN to access country-restricted digital content. For example, some American websites will block my access to certain videos because I am located in Canada and not somewhere in the USA. Such websites can detect that my IP address is Canadian-based and therefore they restrict my access. But a VPN can circumvent these restrictions because it uses a new untraceable IP address.

I am a small business owner and VPN is also very important for Business Security.

The VPN tool I use is PureVPN. Works great, and Secure as well.

I did have hide.me vpn, but it took too long to connect. I installed Private Internet Access, it’s about £5 a month and up to 5 devices including a phone app. This vpn has servers for London and Southampton, handy for multi accounting.
