Extra places calculations
-
Sorry but it’s been a few times me reading the strategy page about Extra places and getting confused like a noob! I simply don’t understand the calculations when it comes to getting the odds for the place part! Matt’s given a horse that’s priced at 6.00 = 5/1, what if I choose a horse at 3.75 = 11/4? Please someone show me how to calculate this (do it as if you’re explaining to a 5 year old 🙂 )

1. Convert to decimals
2. Take away 1
3. Divide by the terms (4 or 5)
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by the number you first thought ofYou don’t need to do step 5.
+0Am I doing it right?
ODDS: 3.75 = 11/4
11/4 – 1 = 10 (or 10/4?) 10/4 = 2.25
2.25 + 1 = 3.25?+0Thought I explained this for you yesterday Tony…
11/4=3.75
-1 = 2.75
Divide by whatever the place terms are (e.g. 1/4)
2.75 / 4 = 0.6875
0.6875 + 1 = 1.6875Win odds 3.75, place odds 1.6875.
+0Sorry harris, got confused, think I get it now, if Matt’s reading this he can delete this post thanks
+0Why are you doing it manually? I just posted the calculator that must have already been posted on these forums about 10 times in the last month or so?
+0Note that the booie often reduces the place odds from 1/4 to 1/5

I made myself a little Excel spreadsheet to work it out for me. It uses simple formulas and then you don’t have to remember what to do! Maybe an idea if you or anyone you know uses excel.
+0Want to learn it at first Chris.
Sleepless, what do you mean?+0Pollypants, I do all my spreadsheets on google sheets. Can access on phone, home laptop, I pad or wherever.
