Forum Improvements

  • Hi guys, just a quick one.

I’m hoping to make some changes to the forum over the next couple of months that will hopefully improve things.

I’ve got a few things planned already but all ideas are welcome!…

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Anything that could be done to improve page load times.

Have you considered a paid/donations option to allow you to pay for a faster server?

The speed? If possible. Can be often slow clicking between pages.

Block/Ignore function. Personally wouldn’t use it but if people don’t get on then they could use that rather than threads descending into nonsense.

    PM option.

Seconded on the big dog comment!

And yeah speed – it’s ok when not logged in, but once logged in it takes an age to navigate between pages

    Speed

    Pm function

Block user …..which may solved some ppls matchedem issue (although I only ever disliked him potentially misleading ppl who didn’t know better)

A sub forum for users who’ve posted x amount of times (and ppl can b more readily blocked from)….. not sure if this would work but some ppl are reluctant to post certain things given the high number silent lurkers out there

Representation from smarkets. We probably pay 1 of their salaries between us so something visible for the ‘in association with’ would be nice even if it’s only an occasional drop in

Just the speed mate. And I second the thumb up thumb down comment pbetts made, or maybe karma points

a moderator or 2 to keep a bit of order to the place.

speed, though it seems to be a bug? if you click a forum link then wait a sec and click a second time, it loads faster, have to double click everywhere to get around faster which in itself probably causes even more load

A private message feature would be great. Made a good mate thru this forum. He had to leave his email address on here and I had to email him to make original contact. There are a few people on here who I would like to share more with but there are a lot of people who troll.

The time it takes when logged in can be a little annoying but this has been mentioned before.

I would also like to say thanks to Matt. Your simple guides got me going 2 years ago and if I had not found this site I would not be where I am at today. I also appreciate every morning logging and seeing the horse racing offers page uploaded and the extra place races. It saves a good bit of time in the morning!

A ‘thank’ option has to be a priority.

There’s so much irrelevant chat about who made the most and who’s the best.

Much more useful would be who got the most thanks this month – i.e. who helped the most newbies, who posted the most offers, who posted the most tips, who shared the best advice.

All the decent contributors from when the forum started would have hundreds. Let’s get the forum back to being that friendly us vs bookies place it was at the beginning.

I have found on other forums a quote feature to be fairly useful.

Echo the comments re speed, quotes and a like/thanks function.

An ignore function would save a lot of hassle as well. Personally I liked the “bigdog” and found the reaction to his posts more annoying. If people could have just ignored him it would save a lot of the squabbling.

My biggest advice is with regards to the New Offers forum. I think you’re missing a trick by not somehow incentivising this section. If you get people posting more offers on here, as many as say paid sites like OM or PA, then you’re going to get a bigger crowd and the website as a whole will become more successful.

At the least, some kind of kudos system, but better yet, I think even doing some kind of ‘donation of thanks’ mechanism, so if people want to be able to donate to someone directly, they can (via PayPal, whatever..). There’s times when I’ve made decent money off of offers I would have not otherwise seen, and I’d quite like to have been like ‘cheers for that mate, here’s a couple of quid as thanks’. That would undoubtedly encourage people to post more New Offers.. Which I genuinely can’t stress how important that could be. Also may be a better way of posting offers, such as tagging with the bookie’s name, the potential FB amount etc, the type of offer (e.g. reload, new customer) essentially to standardise posts. Would make it quicker to post and easier to read the posts in that forum.

I’m sure a lot of offers go unposted because people can’t be bothered, and it can be a bit thankless..
