Friend of a “Friend” does matched betting for me

So for a while a guy who my friend knows has been doing matched betting for a few people. He has them open multiple bank accounts and once each card has been used it is reported as lost/stolen. I think he does this just to take advantage of sign up bonuses, I’ve heard of gnoming but how is it he’s able to continue opening multiple accounts from many different cards to get sign up offers? Is it illegal what he’s doing and should I stop him? He’s making roughly £6,000 monthly and have a 40/60 split in his favour.
