Frustratingly slow start

  • Is this normal? I’m seeing lots of people saying you can make up to £50/day, new customer offers are fairly lucrative etc. But with a bank roll of just £300 I’m finding that I’m often having to wait a day or two to get my liability money back just to carry on and make very little each day. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong? I don’t expect to be making big money but I guess I’m just getting impatient waiting for qualifying bets to settle, waiting again for free bets to be released, waiting again for others to come back in before I have enough liability to cover the free bet. I can never seem to have more than two bets on play on any given day. Although I am only a week in! Thanks 🙂

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

That’s quite normal with a limited bankroll. It’s worth noting that horse races complete much quicker than football matches.

Another thing to consider is placing your qualifying bets on different horses in the same race or different outcomes on the same football match. Only one horse/team can win the race/match so the amount you need in your Smarkets account will be the outcome with the highest liability.

Say for example, you do 3 different welcome offers and place them on the home team (£50.00 liability), draw (£70.00 liability) and away team (£80.00 liability) for the same football match, you would only need £80.00 in your Smarkets account (not the total of £200.00) as only one of your lay bets can lose.

It’s worth being aware of that as it can make your bankroll go a little bit further.

Would you not need at least £120 in your smarkets account to place the 2nd bet?

I don’t believe so, as if the match is a draw then by default the home team winning can’t happen.

If you’d already laid the home team with a liability of £50, then also laid the draw with a liability of £70, it would essentially just be an additional £20 liability to make up the difference, not an extra £70, as only one of the outcomes can happen.

If you lose the Home team lay, you’d pay out the £50 of liability for that and keep the remaining £20 as you would have won on the Draw lay.
