gubbed

  • Morning, I’m new to this game and more than happy to pick up £10 a day. My understanding is to always make sure my bookie bet loses and my stake and winnings goes into my exchange. Am I still likely to get banned/gubbed if the bookie is always taking my money(qualifier&SNR)??

  • New to matched betting?

    My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

    Much less likely to get banned.

    BUT

    If you knew how to guarantee a loss, then you shouldn’t even bother matching it. You could make millions by just laying bets. It’s easy for us to think we know how to lose, but without insider info, we have no more knowledge of who will lose than a punter in your high St bookie will of who will win.
    Plus, one big (unlucky) win on a 16/1 outsider is gonna raise more eyebrows at the bookies than a few wins on a 5/2 fav

    I think it has more to do with the value of the bet than the outcome. The extreme end of the spectrum would be if all of your bets were at higher odds than the exchange, in which case you would be more likely to get flagged sooner. It may be possible to reduce the likelihood of gubbing through a combination of the following (not an exhaustive list by any means):

    – not taking up every offer;
    – not chasing offers across different sports, especially those that you wouldn’t normally bet on;
    – placing qualifying and free bets on mainstream markets;
    – mug betting on similar markets with similar amounts to qualifying bets;
    – not always taking the closest possible odds on qualifying bets;
    – not always choosing the lowest odds on qualifying bets;
    – not always choosing highest odds on free bets

    Of course, this reduces the profits in the short-term and many prefer a smash and grab approach instead.

    Omitted a couple of obvious steps to be added to the list above:
    – keep withdrawals to a minimum; and
    – don’t place conflicting bets with the same bookie (e.g. a qualifying bet on France to win then a free bet on Romania to win 1-2).
