Interview at Ladbrokes (advice please)

  • Hi all,

I have a Job interview at Ladbrokes tomorrow. I Am in the last year of sixth form and it is a full-time 12 month apprenticeship. Obviously I am applying for other things, but this would form my year off, not my career. (uni after).

    Anyway, my question is:

With matched betting, obviously we pick up quite a fair bit of knowledge about how bookies work/terminology/offers/the industry itself. I see this knowledge as an asset I should be portraying whilst in the interview – yet all this knowledge comes from matched betting, something Ladbrokes try and prevent as we know. How should I go about this interview?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    F.S.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Probably best not to mention it actually.

Best thing you can do is smile, show some interest in having sports knowledge of any kind, e.g. are you able to hold a conversation about football?

And the absolute number one thing you should do is show an understanding of FOBTs.

Do not show any negativity towards them. Show that you are happy to work with them and would be happy to promote them to customers.

I would bet that if you are competent and able to use an FOBT and explain how they work, that would be the main thing they are interested in.

On the other hand, I have never worked at a bookmaker (Met City Bank are my bitch now) and I haven’t been in one for years.

    Hasta la vista!

Had an interview with Paddy Power once. It was just after Easter, so spent the weekend at home with family instead of watching the Grand National. Needless to say he was not impressed that I didn’t even know who won the grand national (horses was never my “sport” anyway). He also was disappointed that I couldn’t “count” in odds i.e. something like evens, 6/4, 2/1, 5/2, 11/4, 3/1, 10/3, 7/2, 4/1 etc etc..

Years and years (maybe decades!) ago now.

Be positive. Love Ladbrokes. Dress smart. Speak clearly. Sit up straight. Be humble. Be early.

Show interest, ask questions about your duties/the company.

Go in with an agenda – 3 things on your C.V. that you want to talk about and make sure you talk about them.

Good luck (or hope it went well, depending on if its done yet or not!).

    Okay,
    It’s customer service manager apprentiship.

    Negatives:
    In store
Pay is only £6.60 p/h first year (saying that apprentiships are often much much less)
    First 6 weeks are all 2pm – 10pm.

    Advantages:
I’m going to be store manager after a year. Training provided.
it’s only 12 months – can be done in a gap year, i could go to uni after this.
perks are very good -eg, ladbrokes club gives me online discounts = more income through matched betting. Another eg, 5k if you find a better store location and they go through with it.

    That’s it put simply.

All info is online on ladbrokes careers. If you are considering similar, which i think your not as you asked re head office, give me your email and i can forward you the info pack i received pre interview. Which has more info.

I chose this Job as i am not ready for uni, ill be living with my sis who is at uni, enjoying student lifestyle. Ill be leaving after a year if it is below me/ i feel learning curve not great enough.

Congrats on the job F.Shep42 , poachers make the best game keepers lol. Keep an eye out for those sharbers. For a young person I think the job can be quite an eye opener and may well set you up for uni in the next year or two.

    Thanks Dave,
I will be keeping out for the sharvers don’t you worry. Theyrll be posted here.
It will be an eye opener, also, starting fairly soon means if i did leave 12 months in, id have 2 months to travel before uni would start.

It may not be a good idea to match bet with them whilst your working for them. Doubt it would look to good if you get your accounts closed. Plus its probably against their T&Cs.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/may/31/big-gamble-dangerous-british-betting-shops – worth reading on the current state of betting shops (FOBTs and lone working).

    When do you start?
