Lose float if gubbed?

  • Hi, I’ve been doing this (mashed betting) for about a month or two and have made a decent amount.

However, I feel I’ve been really lucky, maybe because it’s still early days for me, but I have yet to be gubbed on any account so far.

I’m starting to get worried though. I’m looking at my float on betfair and thinking of losing it all because I’m making too much profit (I have a premium charge on it already).

My question is, if you get your account restricted does that just mean you are unable to withdraw or do you lose it all?

I’m thinking about switching my whole float over to smarkets as I don’t hear much stories of them restricting people too often (accurate?). Maybe I should have started with them to begin with I know, I guess I just prefer Betfair overall (layout, more betting options and categories). But yea, since I’m on a premium charge of 3.7% commission with betfair I may as well.

Any advise or tips on how to avoid getting gubbed would be appreciated. And just a bit of clarity as to what happens to the money you have in your account if gubbed (gone for good or just unable to withdraw any from it?).

Thanks and sorry about the essay.

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Betfair make money off your wins. They will never ban you even if you made a million quid a day

As for avoiding gubbings from bookies. Everyone has their own opinion but non seem to work. I didn’t get my first gubb until about 8 months

Are you sure your on a premium charge of 3.7%? i thought it was 5% and any reduction was a reduction of that 5% ie youd be paying 96.3% of 5%. Is that right?. As for the original question i got gubbed from betfairs sportbook early on but theres no way theyd keep any of your money. I know people prefer betfair but i really cant see why people are willing to pay 3% extra commission on events that are covered by smarkets.

Cheers for the reply Mike. It looks like betfair just ups the commission based on how much you earn, just looked at my premium charges there it’s now at 4.7% commission. Do other betting agencies deactivate your account when gubbed even when you still have a fair bit of money in it tho?

Cheers of the replies Pickle. Well that’s a relief that they allow you to withdraw your balance after being gubbed, which was by far my biggest concern of course.

So as for Smarket, is there many instances that you know of people getting gubbed from there for matched betting/arbing? Is it about the same chances of getting stung as other bookies/exchanges or is it rare?

Absolutely no way you are paying the Premium Charge.

You won’t get gubbed on exchanges, they make money off your regardless of how much you win or lose. It’s the bookies who will gub you. I got gubbed for the first time off doing the betbright welcome bonus, which I thought was unfair, but hey ho it happens. No one truly knows the secret to avoiding gubbing, but you can always mug bet here and there if u wanna try to seem a little less suspicious. Pickle already mentioned, bookies wont keep hold of your money, they will allow you to withdraw and operate on the site as normal, you just don’t qualify for offers anymore.

Exchanges are peer to peer, the money is coming from other players with a cut for the exchange. They don’t give a fuck if you make money off them, the more activity you have the better.

If you get gubbed from betfair you just won’t be able to get bonuses from or bet large amounts on the sportsbook side, the exchange will stay available.

Though thats just what I’ve heard from other players though, I’m only gubbed off betway so far.

I got the email the instant I hit withdraw after taking the welcome offer. So now I’m more cautious about withdrawing 100% of my winnings right away, since thats a pretty obvious tell that I’m not going to bet with them again any time soon.

Seosamh. You’re worrying about nothing. You are doing nothing wrong by taking up their offers. When you get gubbed you just get a polite little email saying that after very careful consideration by the traders your account will no longer be eligible for bonus, but please stay with us and you can bet on any other product, but just not receive bonuses.

Also as pointed out you will never be gubbed by smarkets or betfair exchange.

On the other hand if you are breaking the terms and conditions at the bookies (like multi accounting) or frauding them in any way then that is where you run the risk that they deactivate your account and keep your balance.
