Match betting by phone – weapons of choice?

  • Need to invest in a second phone for some new accounts and wondered what handset would be sufficient?

So, what’s the best (cheap!) Android phone to use for match betting? Cannot justify a second iPhone just for this.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I had a cheap android before samsung europa or such. Have an iPhone now and would never go back ever – just in terms of responsiveness and reliability…

I think you would find it frustrating. Even on the iPhone some of the apps are quite slow.

I also find it handy that I can double tap home and line up smarkets and bookie app along side each other to compare odds.

In short I love my iPhone. You can probably get an iPhone 5 for decent value.

I would definitely recommend getting a cheap second hand iPhone rather than a cheap second hand Android phone. Low-end Androids are a waste of time and money.

Tony you may remember my previous post about getting my girlfriend to sign up, finally managed to sort out a new bank for her. I also was wondering what phone to get etc, and then though heck I have always wanted a tablet and it would be much easier to place bets using a tablet (I prefer to place my own bets on a laptop than my phone do it when I have to mind you!)

So yeah treating myself to a Samsung Tab A tomorrow! £240 but heck I deserve a treat and no doubt it will get paid for itself next week anyway!!

Cheers guys. Second hand not really something I want to consider in case the original owner was a gambler. The whole idea is that this will be a “fresh” device for new accounts.

I have been toying with getting an iPad mini, and I guess it would pay for itself after just a few SUBs, but I would then need a new Apple ID creating to download all the bookie apps again. Not sure how problematic that might be.

It will of course need to be cellular so I can use 3G/4G as I won’t want to have it running off my home wifi.

Seem to remember a few folks on here saying they have multiple account with several bookies, I wonder if they go to these lengths to avoid detection. Part of me think I am being overly cautious tbh

I would be very cautious to be honest tony. It probably is over the top but better safe than sorry.

On the other multiple account’s thread some one came out with a couple of horror stories of probing phone calls and accounts shut down. Seems like he lost quite a bit of money out of it too.

The risks are there but the potential reward is much greater! I am also ready to set up the other accounts, I believe where the person on the other thread went wrong is he used the same computer…that is a big NO. Obviously the reason he got caught, if you use a different device connection etc, as me and Tony will be doing I can’t see how you can get caught, goes without saying try not to leave as big balances in the accounts and maybe don’t go for mega high odds as you would normally just in case but yeah one of them!

Rooted phone + xprivacy = ability to control what permissions apps get on your phone.

Stock Android VPN app = ability to stay permanently connected to VPN, and includes a kill switch when connection dies. OpenVPN doesn’t have this feature, which is dangerous if you rely on VPNs.

ownCloud/Google Drive/Dropbox = permanent access to spreadsheets when you need to check accas, bets you need ot put on, etc.

In terms of phones – if you want a cheap burner – you really can’t go wrong with a MotoG. Bought mine I guess nearly 2 years ago now for £100 and it’s still running smoothly, with no shitty ecosystem lockin, and easily rootable. I’m sure current-gen models/2nd hand will be even cheaper.
