Adio, its probably been heard of somewhere for a horse to run more than once in a single day, but it must be very rare. Five times would be neigh on impossible, not to mention incredibly cruel.
The offer refers to the first 5 races each day at the festival. You can bet on 5 different horses in each of these 5 races and receive a free bet for each one that finishes second.

Adio I think you need to read up on horse racing first FACT. No one should be betting on a product they understand that little about even if matching bets

Aido, matchedem has a point. Racing maybe isn’t as straight-forward as other sports, what with non-runners, rule 4’s, each-way bets etc. The races/offers come thick and fast during the Festival. By all means get involved but make sure you understand each offer before placing your bets.
P.S. As a point of clarification to my above post, I was meaning the offer is for one bet (i.e. the first) in each race – just realised it could be interpreted as meaning you can back 5 horses in the same race 🙂
+0I’ve actually done a few bets on “2nd to SP favourite” before, and won a couple of free bets). It’s more the way Paddy’s offer was phrased that confused me. I thought it’d be strange if a horse participated more than once a day, but I wanted to make sure. The other day, I had a brief look at the horse list in Cheltenham on some given day, and it seemed to me that a couple of horse names appeared more than once on the day (probably imagining things).
I have 6 Paddy outlets near me (UK). So this means I can visit each shop several times and place bets on, say, 2, even 3 (if I visit 3 times), different horses in each of the every 5 races to maximise my chances? I am thinking of doing this a few days before the race itself, so as not to get recognised by the bookies working there (I’ll come at different times of the day, hopefully they have different shifts). Is this a valid strategy? Do they honour the odds at which I placed the bet a couple of days in advance? A rough calculation shows that in this way I should make about £400-500 just from these shops alone over the 4 day period (assuming max £20 bet each time).

Horses are often entered for more than one race on the same day in advance of a meeting, with owners/trainers deciding which the horse will run in at the final declaration stage nearer the race.
I haven’t started hitting the shops for matched betting yet, so don’t know the ins and outs of this, but it sounds like a strategy. Others on here have done/do this so can advise better.
+0To add to the comments about declarations – be careful if you’re doing ante post bets now. One year I only realised after a bet of mine won and I wasn’t paid out, that the trainer had changed which race the horse was running in, so my bet was void.

Adio – I think it’s 48 hrs before the race for the Grade 1s. Day before for the flat.

It’s 2 days prior for Grade 1 jumps races, flat racing and any races on a Sunday, 1 day prior for all other races, by 10:00am in both cases.
So for Cheltenham, which has a number of Grade 1 races, it is going to be a mix of 1 day and 2 days prior, depending on the race.
