Potential catastrophes

  • So last night i was looking at the enhanced odds on the QPR v Brighton match on sky bet. I noticed they were better odds than were currently available to lay on smarkets. So i put £15 on 1-0 to QPR and £15 on 1-0 Brighton for small profits. Then about a hour later i was back on smarkets and realised id been looking and bet on the half time market. So after frantically looking round at ways i could cut my liabilities. In the end i put my £25 qualifying bet with sky on exactly 1 first half goal @ 2.5 and my £10 free bet on it as well as soon as the game started. Luckily for me it was 0-0 at half time and i got away with it. Also had to match the original 1-0s at full time for small losses. Think id have lost about £45 had Brighton been 1-0 up at the break. Definitely a bullet dodged but no profit from the free bet. Anyone else got any horror stories?

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Bet and laid the wrong horse a few times only to see both bets lose. Did it again about a week ago and both bets won lol

Messed up a bet365 In play offer by not placing the in play draw bet quickly enough, odds plummeted and I ended up losing £30. Had a couple of lay mistakes that thankfully won at the bookie side and never paid out.

Yep, done the back/lay different horses by mistake. Luckily the laid horse hasn’t gone on to win…yet!

Doing the in-play offers on PP around November. My computer started freezing up and to make matters worse, the match vanished from PP’s site for about 30 mins and I still hadn’t go to place my bet with the odds on Smarkets changing rapidly.

To put some icing on this cluster F of a cake, one of my bets on Smarkets had gone wrong; due to my computer freezing, I had clicked the wrong outcome, put in the wrong odds (thinking they were for the market I was supposed to be laying) and realized I’d be down about 70 quid all in all. I was annoyed to no end… but miraculously, it all evened out somehow to this day that I’m not sure how but I actually ended up with my 6.70 profit PLUS another 25-ish pound extra in my smarkets. Still have no clue as to how the hell it all worked out in the end.

Did the TonyBet sign up offer yesterday but instead of the first bet losing and the money going into Smarkets, it won and I now have £920 in TonyBet(which I can’t withdraw) and £3.36 in Smarkets. I have to play through another £900 on TonyBet before I can withdraw. Being a student I don’t have much more money that I can deposit into Smarkets… I have 60 days until all my winnings are forfeited.

Placed an in play bet, just after there’s a goal and lay odds shift in my favour. I’ve a few too many tabs open and end up laying it in the FT market rather than HT. Spotted my mistake, made the correct lay at even better odds. While trying to figure out the best way to cover the potential losses of the first lay there’s another goal and the back odds shift in my favour allowing me to make a profit on this too. A very lucky escape.

If you did not have enough liquidity, you should have stayed clear of big deposit bonuses!

I’ve done Tonybet too and they were limiting my stakes after a few wins as I (unfortunately) kept winning at the bookie. With over 500EUR left to rollover I decided to wager all the money left as 50EUR bets at odds of ~2.0 or so (stake limit was 50EUR on 2.0 odds) in one single go to cover myself before they decided to limit me even more.

In the end I got out with 75euro profit.

Had a couple! The first was my first ever matched bet using the coral opening offer. I put the bets on at coral but only lay one on Betfair due to clicking furiously between calculators, odds trawlers and tutorial videos. Luckily I only ended up losing a fiver. Used the free bet and made a small profit.

This week I was looking at two matches and figuring out the best odds, had a lapse of concentration, bet on one match and lay on the other. Luckily I was able to cash out at Betfair for a 16p loss and re lay on the correct game, resulting in a profit overall! Fortunately no major losses but they’ve reminded me to slow down a bit and check check check!

1, took bsp early in the morning as was going out for the sky horses offer, non runner so bet fair took the bsp then but of course you don’t see this in your open bets until the off,. so bet again on same horse nearer the off. luckily didn’t win!

    2. two browsers windows open by mistake with same market waiting for horse to match = both did and the horse won – £140 loss!

Glad it’s not just me! Doing the 888 triple odds offer I backed a horse at 17/1 as I went to lay my screen froze for a second, to my delight the lay odds had dropped to 5/1. Turns out the page had skipped down to the place markets.

Luckily it was a complete donkey and didn’t place so all good. Having said that, now I’m a bit more experienced I would have backed the place and taken at close odds and taken a slight hit and then placed the correct lay bet.

Few weeks back lay’d a horse and It didnt match so I thought I had cancelled it and re did it at higher odds not realising the first one had actually matched…I actually wanted the horse to win to win to gain more money in the bookies, but then it lost on the line which I was quite annoyed about! Went to the exchange to see an additional £200!! Always had me wondering if I had known that I actually needed the horse to lose I just know sods law it would have actually won…

Bad times mate it definitely isnt risk free matched betting if you cock it up. I guess the best way to avoid it is never try lay a bet last minute where it might not get matched or never try wait for lower odds etc..dont wory youll make it back no problem!
