Question about Gubbing

  • Hello

I’m new to matched betting and just wondered what the score was with gubbing. Will companies restrict or ban you from offers even if your lifetime balance with them is negative? Is it worth noting down your numbers with each bookie in order to distinguish which ones you are making profit from and which ones you aren’t? and therefore make sure you place some mug bets with certain bookies and not with others. Or do people just place mug bets with all bookies? (seems quite time consuming) Some advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers!

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Being a net loser with a bookies will not prevent gubbing. 3 of the account I have been gubbed from were net losers.

That is not to say that you should not keep good records – my records are probably too granular (I log every single bet!) but it is always a good idea to know where your money is and what you have bet on. At times I need this to remind me to use free bets etc…

As for mug betting – everyone has a different view on this, but personally I don’t think that it helps in the slightest. I recently got the dreaded email from Sky Bet, where I took up a lot of offers, but I also played slots, poker and casino games, as well as doing regular accas and other non-offer bets. It hasn’t stopped them gubbing me 🙁

    OK thanks

Have you found the sites that have gubbed you were ones you were betting on offers quite prolifically? Do you think it would make a difference to not hit every offer that comes available or do you think it’s a case of fill your boots until you get stopped? How long have you been hitting the skybet offers before being gubbed? Sorry about all the questions it’s just really useful info for me to plan ahead.

I have only been at this since last autumn, but have used Sky frequently since then. I had also hit all the other accounts that gubbed me hard in that time.

Not doing every offer is probably advisable, but then in the current climate I would be more inclined to say fill your boots while you can tbh.

Multi accounting (with full knowledge and consent of your patsy!) is one way to basically double (triple…) profits.

There are other strands of profitability to look into (e/w arbing on horse racing for example – see the “My alternative to match betting thread” on here for a wealth of info on that) so there is plenty of opportunity, it is just a bit harder than it was 6-12 months ago. Just look at the new Paddy offer on televised football to see how they are trying to make the match bettor’s life harder in the way they structure their offers.

Just to add to this, the way you are restricted will vary by bookmaker. For example, 365 restrict the amount I can win, Betbright limited me to penny stakes and Stan james closed my account. But most just stop you taking part in offers.

Like Tony I don’t believe Mug betting is worthwhile. I do however believe that withdrawing should be avoided. I know it’s perfectly normal betting behaviour to withdraw winnings, but most require manual approval, and that means drawing attention to your betting patterns.

Of course this is conjecture, and some bookies will just gub regardless (paddy, Boyle) but it’s about keeping under the radar and not drawing attention.

Or it could just be random…
