Sharbing disaster avoided-Coral's
-
So I went into a Coral shop earlier to do the £5 in store bet to get the free £5 online bet.Looking at the midweek coupon I noticed that Burnley were 11/10 (2.10) to win tonight’s cup replay against Sunderland.Checking Smarkets lay price on my phone I saw the lay price for Burnley was 1.87.
“Ye gods” I thought, big sharb there ill have £50 on it for a £5+ profit. Then I thought no,ill just do the £5 using my connect card and then ill go to another Coral down the road and do the £50 in cash there.
Well,it was lucky I did as when they gave me the receipt the odds on their was 4/5 (1.80).When I pointed this out to the cashier they said that odds are subject to change as it says on the coupon at the bottom
My problem with this is that they didn’t even tell me that the price was different to what is on the coupon.I went to put a bet on at odds of 11/10 and got a receipt with 4/5 on it without even being told. There’s got to be some law against that surely?
ps I only lost 23p luckily enough,£5 at 1.8/1.87 but,how about if someone like a normal mug punter went to have a good wedge on at 11/10 and walked out without realising the price they got was only 4/5!!+0January 17, 2017 at 5:41 pm

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I think they should have asked you if the new odds were acceptable biscuit.. I’m not sure on the law or if there is one!
Always a bit of an issue this though, turning down new odds because they’ve moved a fraction 🙂
+0I’ve read this can happen occasionally on sharbing and you should always check your receipt before leaving the till and be ready to question….
+0As far as I’m aware it’s the cashiers job to tell you that the prices have changed. You then get to decide whether you want to take the bet or not. If upon receiving your slip if it’s not the same odds as on the coupon you have the right for them to void the bet. As soon as you walk away from the counter though that is it and your in a contract.
+0Cheers ill be sure to confirm the odds before paying in future,Could put a complaint in as well but,ill let it go this time!
+0Is there a new Conncet offer?.
+0It’s the bet £5 in store and get a £5 free bet online the next day offer sleepless. ps The bet has to be placed over the counter not on any of the machines!
+0You can just ask them to void it if the odds have changed and you’ve already given them the money. I normally say something about being able to get better odds down the road. Never had a problem doing this, but I’ve heard of some rogue MOS refusing to void. If they refuse, don’t leave the shop, and make them ring customer service for you.

I used to work in a bookies and if this ever happened, a message would come up on the screen telling the staff the odds of one or more have selections have changed. The staff are supposed to check with the customer that the price change is OK, but obviously this person didn’t do their job properly! Always double check as soon as you get the receipt, that way the staff will still have your coupon at hand and you are in your right to refuse the new odds if you wish.
+0Yep I do what Neil does.. I just tell them to void it.
