Slightly panicking
-
Hi I’ve been reading about matched betting for years now and I understand the concept of backing -/ laying – unlock in free bets etc
I set up an account with smarkets did a few bets had a nice profit of £30 for some free bets
Then I did one yesterday for the Liverpool v Seville game had the liabilty covered about £50
Then I thought I’d crack on and do another bet using the sky bet offer £5 gets £20 free bets did that
Thought I’d do another did man v Bournemouth as a draw liabilty about £50 ish again.
Then I panicked and thought wait a minute what if both of these loose on the lay side am I going to have enough to cover my lay bets so I added another £100 to my smarket account – did I need to do this or was I covered anyway
Really I think my point is should I have waited before one bet is finished before I started on the other one .
Getting myself a bit worked up – please help+0May 17, 2016 at 6:10 pm

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Also what confused me is when I layed the Man U v Bournemouth my balance went up in smarket
+0Luton ,if you have been reading about matchbetting for years you are obviously a very slow learner and I dont think you have the aptitude for this.
What you have written is total rubbish.
Your 2nd post is impossible.
Have you forgotten you said you added funds.
This is the only way your balance could have gone up.
Take another 5 years in learning and then come back again.
Sorry for the abrupt nature of my response but clearly you have no idea what you are doing.+0Smarkets (or any exchange for that matter) will only allow you to lay a bet if you have enough money in your account to cover the liability.
When placing multiple lay bets on the same market (so the WDW of a footy match, or several horses in the same race) you only need enough in your account to cover the largest liability amount, as obv only one selection can win.
Chances are you had already placed a lay bet on s different outcome of that same footy match, hence your Smarkets balance appearing to go up.
@patrick – maybe just don’t bother posting if you can’t at least be civil to other?+0Sometimes it best ti learn the hardway.
Too many expect spoon feeding without understanding what tbey are doing.
His opening statement was “I have been reading about match betting for years”. He obviously hadnt learnt much has he.+0Patrick you were out of order.
+0In what way Fog ?
How long should it take to get a basic grasp of MB ?
Certainly not “a number of years”+0This is the newbie board. Whatever he said about reading up on it before, it’s clear he is just starting.
As you said yourself, your response was abrupt.
+0Patrick – ‘ Have you forgotten you said you added funds. This is the only way your balance could have gone up.’
How long have you been matched betting for exactly? Surely you know by now that betting on the same market will only take the largest liabiltity , hence the op’s balance going back up. Don’t see what you add to this forum really, either blaming everyone for the so called death of matched betting, or having a go at people who post questions only looking for a bit of guidance.
Really no point on you being on here at all.
+0Gman if you read his first post carefully you will see he says”if both these lose on the layside” inferring he has only 2 live bets both on different matches, therefore it was not possible for his balance to go up if he bet on Manu match having already bet on the Liverpool game.
+0Ok Patrick. But you told him the only way his balance can go up is by adding funds. This is obv not always the case. As soon as I read his 2nd post it seemed clear that he had already bet on the man u game, and the 2nd lay bet on that market was the reason his balance went up. As Tony has already explained. And its one thing reading up about matched betting but you learn as you go along, I didnt know about adjusted liabilities for a few months into it. I think the guy’s only looking for a bit of guidance, not looking to be spoon fed as you say.
+0No prob Gman.
Hope you have s successful night.
Derby to qualify at 80/1 before yhe game was looking a good bet at half time.+0Like FoG says, this is a newbie board. We all pissed and moaned at Matt to have such a board where all these (perfectly acceptable!) kind of questions could be posted.
If you gasp in horror at what you read in here then just move along. You don’t HAVE to comment on every thread, do you?
Others are happy to try and answer these kind of questions, so why not leave it to them and stop insulting people?
+0Hi yes that it what has happened – I bet on the same game and layed two different outcomes on smarket
I understand Patrick’s annoyance – I am a bit slow lol
I was just worried that I wouldn’t have the funds should back bets win .
+0I thought we were friends Fog !!
