New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Youll be surprised how many channel 4 races i’ve seen (not as such tomorrow) where there is 5/6 horses and there are two of odds like 2.0 2.5 and then the next is like 8+ which really does help when picking a 2nd, I personally always usually get at least 1 2nd place on a saturday and I only do a few races
+0Ive been doing this for the last few weeks with William Hill and paddy before and made a few hundred off it. watch the markets for a little, find a horse thats odds are falling and back it at the right time for either minimal loss or even guaranteed profit. obviously doesn’t work every time as odds fluctuate. Made me serious money though from gradual 2nds, i average about 2 a day, all adds up! Especially when combining.
+0Glad someone agrees Ed! When you combine offers and have two chances of hitting a 2nd place, and combine that with a race with smaller fields and only a few horses which are favourite it is definitely a great earner!
+0Another key thing to note here, if using Betfair’s Exchange anyway, is that if you lay 2 horses in the same race and 1 of them does win the race, then you won’t have to pay commission on your winning lay.
+0Never knew that Dan, why’s that? I would have thought you’d pass commission on any winnings!
+0Because if won of your lay selections goes onto win the race then that means you lose and someone else wins so they pay out the commission.
Happened me yesterday in a race where Le Mercury won (had laid as part of WH enhanced offer) and the other selection lost the race so my lay won. I didn’t pay any commission.
Keep an eye on it next time if one of your lays wins the race and the other lay loses the race. Not sure about other exchanges apart from Betfair.
+0So on betfair if your lay loses you pay no commission same for football etc?
+0I always knew you paid no commission on losses..but never knew if you lay’d two horses one lost one won you’d pay no commission on the won that won seems odd
+0If you’ve had a recent race where you had a winner and loser on betfair then check it in your history. I can’t post an image here to show you mine from yesterday.
And yes Jamiea it seems to apply to any sport and event but must be in the same market. (Correct Scores, WDW, HT result, etc.)
You need to have 1 selection win and 1 or more lose+0Mentioned this a few weeks back – https://matchedbettingblog.com/topic/exchange-commission/
It’s not that you’d be sure to pay no commission, unless the lay odds and stakes were the same. You only pay it on profit which would either be smaller or completely cancelled out.
Anyway, Sky doing money back on 2nd and 3rd places at 1350 Ascot.
+0That’s it Beh. Nice one
+0Never really clicked, as I said in that thread I couldn’t see a good way to use it, but you’re on to something using it for racing. You’d rarely (if ever) pay any commission laying 2 horses as the liabilities will always be much greater. So you reduce your commission while increasing your chances.
+0Made a lot of money from it, you can have a dry streak but then you can hit 4 2nds the day after 😀 The only issue is cash flow and potentially losing too much out of your exchange account if you have a string of winners
+0Thta’s the thing, people have said before playing a few different offers in same race isn’t good because your qual. costs can add up but the chance of missing out on Betfair’s 5% is a great plus.
+0little off topic but just made a stupid move
on the WH 20 pound on 10 in play deal so put my lay bet on and went to put my 20 pound bet on WH only my daily limit it set to £10 DOH and cant change it for 24 hours
should i just leave it as a mug bet potential £20 if Newcastle dont win?
