Using an exchange's free bet to lay?

Hi guys, maybe I’m having a slow day but I can’t quite get by head around this. I’m doing the BETDAQ sign up offer, so I’ve won/lost £100 worth of bets to qualify for the £25 free bet.
Apparently, it’s SNR, and I can understand that with backing a bet (and then laying it off at Smarkets), but the website seems to suggest the free bet can be used to lay a bet – could anyone explain how that would work? I feel like I’m missing something obvious with regards to the maths.
