Money back 2nd offer with William Hill and Ladbrokes
-
Hi guys, after being a long time lurker, I finally decided to set up an account. Firstly, I’d like to thank Matt and all of the regulars on this forum for what has been a very profitable first few months of match betting.
In the past month I’ve taken it more seriously and moved onto a lot of the horse racing offers, as well as the conventional offers posted on the main blog. I’ve done a few of the William Hill money back 2nd offers on weekdays throughout January as well as all of the money back 2nd offers for the last three saturdays with William Hill and Ladbrokes. I was just wondering how long these type of offers have been going for and whether we can expect them to continue into February?
Also, after reading some of the other posts regarding recent account restrictions, I was wondering how often you all take up these money back 2nd offers (and whether I should hold back on them for a bit to reduce the likelihood of a restriction)?

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

These offers have been going every Saturday Channel 4 racing for as long as I can remember…and its a tough one, as I feel personally when I do these offers I always cover the fav and 2nd fav as that’s obviously the best chance of a 2nd place refund. Saturday Channel 4 racing is probably one of the peak times for horse racing bets from a bookie and therefore I feel so many people will be betting on the fav anyway as that’s a natural thing to do…..anyway I’ve been doing these 2nd places for i’d say 8 months and im still going *touch wood*
+0About the same as Ryan. I bet on favs and it’s such a common thing to do I hope they don’t flag me. I also like to make an acca with all my picks for the day and put some change on it, just to look a bit like a mug. One of my acca’s came in before Christmas for €1000 return off €7.
With sky I’m doing acca now on my super 6 picks and won €35 on that just past weekend.
The promos come and go and change the terms slightly like paddy had money back in November even some days for every race in three meetings. Then in December changed their terms to money back if 2nd to sp which made it mostly worthless in my opinion.
I’ve been doing quite well according to what I personally want to get out of it. So I don’t want to lose it. Increasingly placing more bets outside the promos and visiting the casino. Trying to watch the live streams too even if I’m watching on TV I will still click the will hill stream on my phone and the Ladbroke one on the laptop ..
I worried a lot about getting restricted but now it has happened me on paddy, betway, betfred and 888sport. You know what there is always another one to join up with decent promos. You don’t have time in the day to do all the promos anyway. So if you get gubbed so be it, withdraw your cash (which always is a bit of a buzz) and concentrate on another bookie.
+0If you bet on the favourite, how do you use your bet ?
Do you still bet on a favourite and dont lay it ,or do you back an 8/1 shot and hope to make 80% with a close match. It also occurred to me when I was doing my free inplay bet with WH on the Chelsea game, that maybe always waiting until half time to do the match bet that could be flagging up I am a matched better.
The mug punter would probably pile in straight away to use his free bet straight away.
+1Patrick, don’t know what you’re on about. We’re referring to the qualifying bets to get the free bet, ie horse must come 2nd therefore a horse at 100/1 should have a lot less chance of finishing 2nd than the odds on favorite does…
+0Thanks for the replies! It’s encouraging to hear you still have the main accounts intact. I was reminded about how big the betting industry is by an advert during the channel 4 racing on Saturday. It was a William Hill advert that said they given over £25 mil in free bets from the money back 2nd offer!
Was anyone match betting during Cheltenham last year and if so, what kind of offers were on?
+0Patrick. To be honest I don’t alway match my qualifying bets on the favs. I only heard about matched betting last week. Before that I wasn’t laying anything and still making a good profit. On the horses I bet on the favourite but only less than 3/1. I’m starting to lay them now but don’t panic if I don’t get a tight match on the exchanges. Of course there is a huge added risk here and if 10 races in a row you don’t have a favourite win or 2nd then you would be in a big hole. From the stats that I have gathered 22% of the favs under 3/1 finish 2nd and 32% win – so in half the races I was winning real money or a free bet.
If you’re going to bet a free bet without laying then don’t bet on the favourite.
Cristoph, you just need to look at the premier league shirt sponsor, and advertising hoarding to see how many bookies there are. Its endless.
I wasn’t betting last year, but I gather that there was a big horse festival in November and that is when paddy power were offering the same promo money back 2nd as Ladbrokes and Will Hill now are. It was every race one meeting every day, and then the weekend of the big festival it was every race three meetings per day. Price boosts were crazy too.
+0Lucky you, I have done the C4 promo for saturdays for a few months and have just been restricted by ladbrooks, mugged them plenty too, I guess sometimes its luck whether you get restricted or not. I have another account but wont be doing it every week and hopefully wont get restricted if I do I will genuinely believe mug betting etc makes no difference.

p.s. FOGBLOG do you pick all your horses in one go? Surely you cant get good matches until closer to the race?
+0Dazlad. I pick my horses as fast as it takes to scroll down and tap on all the favourites below 3/1! I know nothing about horses.
I only came into matched betting recently before that I wasn’t laying anything.
I am now starting to check later on the exchange and see if I can match them. If I don’t get a lay then I’m not going to panic as I’ve been winning without laying for months.
I have both favourites backed in will hill races tomorrow already. I then checked about an hour later on the exchange and put in lays which were both matched. So tiny profit on both with a good chance of a free bet. If I don’t get a lay then it’s a gamble and I lose some/ win some and average out losing about 10% per race which is about the same hit strict matched betters will take on their qualifying bet.
I have some stories in my blog on my profile.
+0Ryan I find your response very rude and ignorant. I can only assume you are on the wine or waccy baccy when you madr your reply.
Where in my post do I mention a 100/1 chance as you mention in your reply.
If you cant understand my original post I dont think you should be match betting as you obviously dont have the inteligent capacity.+0Hey Ryan just want to say thank you for getting me into the money back 2nd bets its finally paying off and I’m getting that money back i lost i told you about before 🙂 loving it!
+0Ive been gubbed by Ladbrokes yesterday. I have had a few free bets from them but not many.
I wonder if its pretty obvious what im doing as all my horse bets are on low odds and all my free bets are on high odds.
Maybe its just luck but its really annoying they have gubbed me so quickly.+0Patrick – I’ve a decent knowledge on horse racing and coupled with the PP 2nd to fav offers a decent return is feasible. Best bet is to look/ home in on small fields where there is a strong short priced favourite and a fairly close second favourite so have a punt on the second favourite. It pays off quite nicely if you’re selective – home in on races with no more than 10 runners definitely!!
Can’t disagree with your feedback to Ryan – don’t think we need his comments in that tone either. Thought a forum should be to try and help each other out???
+0Sorry to hear about your Ladbrokes gubbing Ice Magic, I suspect bookies are far quicker to gubb people than they used to be. I am not an IT expert by any means, but do you think iesnare may have something to do with it. Many bookies use this software and say it is to route out multiple account holders and money laundering, but I would not be surprised if they are also using it for other purposes.
Like I say I have no background in computers so I don’t know what exactly the iesnare software is capable of. It also would not surprise me if bookies share information about suspected match bettors with one another, even though this is probably against data protection laws, if we look at what has happened with the sharp practises that occurred in the financial industry over the last few years then information sharing amongst bookies is very likely to occur.
+0Thanks for your support roly24.
The main point of my post was to ask wether my trend of backing the favourite/2nd favourite but then using the freebet on an 8/1 shot to maximise the freebet was flagging up to the bookies I was a matched better.Surely the mug puntet would continue backing the favourite with his freebet or maybe go for a complete outsider for a big payday.
