It’s Everton v Crystal Palace in Saturday’s early kick-off and Betfair are getting in on the action! Simply place a £20.00+ Exchange back bet on Everton v Crystal Palace and Betfair will give us a £10.00 free bet towards a lay bet on Brighton v Watford. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.00 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- We must opt-in to this promotion to be eligible.
- The minimum stake to qualify is £20.00.
- We must place an Exchange back bet on Everton v Crystal Palace on Saturday 8th February 2020.
- £10.00 free bet must be used via mobile towards a lay bet on the Match Odds market of Brighton v Watford.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how they should be done.
If you’re paying 2% commission with Betfair’s Basic package, you won’t be eligible for this ‘Bet £20, Get £10’ Exchange offer.
We’ll need to lay our bet at another exchange.
It’s entirely up to you what you place your qualifying bet on. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Everton in the Match Odds market.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £19.72.
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Betfair | Other Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Everton win | +£12.73 | -£13.40 | £0.67 loss |
Everton don’t win | -£20.00 | +£19.32 | £0.68 loss |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.68 in qualifying for our free bet.
Free Bet:
We’ll receive our £10.00 free bet upon settlement of our qualifying bet. The free bet must be used via mobile towards a lay bet on the Match Odds market of Brighton v Watford, which kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday 8th February 2020.
This free bet works a little differently to usual free bets. When we make our selection and apply the free bet, £10.00 will be taken off our liability.
We need to place our bet on Brighton as lower odds are best for maximising our overall profit.
At the time of writing, Brighton are available at back odds of 2.182 (13/11) at Vbet and lay odds of 2.26 on the Betfair Exchange.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator. We just need to open up the ‘Advanced’ section and use the slider to find the point at which there is a £10.00 difference between the ‘If back bet wins‘ and ‘If lay bet wins‘ totals.
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £14.40…
Place £10.00 on Brighton @ 2.182 = Potential profit of £11.82
Lay £14.40 on Brighton @ 2.26 = Potential liability of £8.14
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Betfair Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Brighton win | +£11.82 | -£8.14 | £3.68 profit |
Brighton don’t win | -£10.00 | +£13.68 | £3.68 profit |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll extract £3.68 from our £10.00 free bet. If we take into account our maximum qualifying loss of £0.68, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.00 on this Betfair Exchange offer!
* Everton beat Crystal Palace 3-1 and Brighton drew 1-1 with Watford, resulting in a profit of £3.01 on this Betfair Exchange offer. *

0Hi Matt
Not sure how this is done? it says lay odds of 2.26 in the calculator but 2.06 in the panel. Do I just alter the odds to 2.06 in the betfair lay odds box?
TheBigA
22I don’t think that is a good idea as it won’t be matched if that isn’t the current lay price being offered (if I’m not mistaken).
I layed it at 2.4 as that was the price at the time, but had to adjust the slider calculator accordingly to “find the point at which there is a £10.00 difference between the ‘If back bet wins‘ and ‘If lay bet wins‘ totals” as stated in the guide.
Hopefully that makes sense, good luck!
Matt
1490Apologies, the 2.06 was a typo. It should have been 2.26, the same as the calculator.
That said, you need to enter the lay odds that are available to you at the time of placing the bets. Odds fluctuate all the time, so it’s not advisable to copy the stakes in these posts.

1490Thanks for flagging that up Martyn, not sure what happened there. Banner updated.

Guest userJust to update you all on this promo, I forgot to use my free lay and only just remembered now but you can use these in play so finding a lower odds outcome is a much better return.
Matt
1490Thanks Mark, good to know.
