It’s Man Utd v Leicester in the Premier League 2018/19 curtain-raiser on Friday and you don’t want to miss this Sky Bet ‘Bet £10, Get £5’ offer! Place £10.00 worth of bets on Man Utd v Leicester and Sky Bet will give us a £5.00 free bet. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.54 and here’s how…

Key Terms:

  • Qualifying bets must be placed between 19:45 on Tuesday 7th August 2018 and 20:00 (kick-off) on Friday 10th August 2018.
  • We must place £10.00 worth of bets, to be eligible.
  • Our qualifying bets must be placed at odds of 1.333 (1/3) or greater.

Qualifying Bet:

If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.

Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Man Utd in the Full Time Result market.

At the time of writing, laying our bet at Smarkets gives us the smallest qualifying loss.

We can calculate our lay stakes using my matched betting calculator…

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.74…

Sky Bet logo

Place £10.00 on Man Utd @ 1.50 = Potential profit of £5.00

Smarkets logo

Lay £9.74 on Man Utd @ 1.56 = Potential liability of £5.45

Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…

Man Utd win+ £5.00 – £5.45 = £0.45 loss
Man Utd don't win- £10.00 + £9.54 (£9.74 minus 2% commission) = £0.46 loss

So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.46 in qualifying for our £5.00 free bet.

Free Bet:

Our £5.00 free bet will be credited upon placement of our qualifying bet and will be valid for 7 days. Free bet stakes are not returned with any winnings.

By using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to extract 80% cash from the £5.00 free bet, so £4.00. If we take into account our maximum qualifying loss of £0.46, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.54 on this Sky Bet offer!

* Man Utd won the match 2-1, resulting in a profit of £3.55 on this Sky Bet offer. *

Hi Matt, do you think there is any risk in placing the free bet on the same game, but a different bet. I haven’t done it before, but just wondered what you thought.
    Thanks for your brilliant website!

I’ve placed my free bet on the same game, and have done so many times without any hint of being gubbed so I reckon it’d be okay

You’re welcome Jan! I think Sky Bet would be expecting most of the free bets to be used on the same game, so yes you should be fine.

Hi Matt, placing free bets whilst the match is being played, is this ever a good idea?

It’s better to place it at half-time or during a stoppage in play Jake (if you’re watching the match). That’s because the odds don’t fluctuate quite so much. It’s also an idea to place them on a Correct Score that see both teams scoring, like 1-1 or 2-1. If a goal is scored before you get chance to lay your bet, the odds will no doubt shorten and you’ll be in a good position, rather than losing out.
