Premier League football returns on Friday and you don’t want to miss this William Hill offer. Simply bet £20.00 on the Premier League 2019/20 top goalscorer and William Hill will give us a £5.00 free bet every time our player scores between 9th August 2019 and 1st September 2019! Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £19.65 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- Qualifying bets must be placed between 00:01 on Monday 29th July 2019 and 20:00 on Friday 9th August 2019.
- We must place a £20.00 win or £10.00 each way bet on the English Premier League – Top Goalscorer market.
- We’ll receive a £5.00 free bet every time our player scores a Premier League goal between 9th August 2019 and 1st September 2019 (inclusive).
NOTE: This post has been put together from a matched betting perspective. It’s important to bear in mind though that this means tying up some of our exchange funds until the end of the season. The alternative is to place a qualifying bet without laying. Our selected player should score enough goals to cover some of the £20.00 stake and we could win big if he goes on to be top goalscorer.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
It’s entirely up to you which player you place your qualifying bet on. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Smarkets gives us the smallest qualifying loss.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £20.05…
Place £20.00 on Aubameyang @ 8.00 = Potential profit of £140.00
Lay £20.05 on Aubameyang @ 8.00 = Potential liability of £140.35
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Aubameyang top scores | +£140.00 | -£140.35 | £0.35 loss |
Aubameyang doesn’t top score | -£20.00 | +£19.64 | £0.36 loss |
So, regardless of who finishes top goalscorer, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.36 in qualifying for our potential free bets.
NOTE: It’s worth pointing out that if we select the same player for the various different bookmaker Top Goalscorer offers, we would need a large amount in our exchange account to cover the overall liability. By selecting a few different players, we can reduce our overall liability at the exchange. That’s because only one player can be top goalscorer (winnings are reduced if players finish tied), so we just need enough exchange funds to cover the player with the largest liability.
Free Bets:
For every goal that Aubameyang scores between 9th August 2019 and 1st September 2019, we’ll receive a £5.00 free bet by 12:00 the following day. Free bets will be valid for 4 days and free bet stakes are not included in any returns.
Aubameyang plays for Arsenal and their scheduled fixtures are against Newcastle (A), Burnley (H), Liverpool (A) and Tottenham (H). If Aubameyang can score 5 goals, we’ll receive £25.00 in free bets.
By using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to extract 80% cash from our £25.00 in free bets, so £20.00. If we take into account our minimum qualifying loss of £0.35, this gives us a potential profit of £19.65 on this William Hill offer!
* Aubameyang scored 3 goals between 9th August 2019 and 1st September 2019 and did not finish top goalscorer, resulting in a profit of £11.64 on this William Hill offer. *

Guest userI don’t know how you’re getting such a small qualifying loss. The odds for the back and the lay are never the same when I look.
Matt
1490Those odds were available at the time of posting Jack.
Odds will always fluctuate one way or the other. There’s nothing wrong with taking a slightly higher qualifying loss on this as there’s still plenty of value in the offer.

18Is there a max number of free bets on this William Hill offer. There is on Betfred.
As a sidenote I laid both of the offers on the day these were released on Smarkets, I then waited a couple of days, I did not want to tie up my money for the entire year, then I traded out both lays (Aguero and Kane) with a net loss on Smarkets of -0.13. I remember reading what Jack Green says in his book regarding laying two different outcomes can reduce liability massively but this is the first time I have really benefitted.
Matt
1490I don’t recall there being a maximum number of free bets for this one.

1490You should have received it by 12:00 on Sunday, so you might want to chase it up.
