It’s a big New Year’s Day of Premier League action and Betfair are getting in on the action! Simply place a £20.00+ Exchange back bet on any Wednesday Premier League match and Betfair will give us a £10.00 free bet to use on Liverpool v Sheffield Utd on Thursday. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £7.53 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- We must opt-in to this promotion to be eligible.
- The minimum stake to qualify is £20.00.
- We must place an Exchange back bet on any Premier League match on Wednesday 1st January 2020.
- £10.00 free bet must be used via mobile on the Match Odds market of Liverpool v Sheffield Utd.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how they should be done.
If you’re paying 2% commission with Betfair’s Basic package, you won’t be eligible for this ‘Bet £20, Get £10’ Exchange offer.
We’ll need to lay our bet at another exchange.
It’s entirely up to you what you place your qualifying bet on. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Man City to beat Everton.
We can calculate our lay stake using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £19.93.
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Betfair | Other Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Man City win | +£5.51 | -£5.97 | £0.46 loss |
Man City don’t win | -£20.00 | +£19.53 | £0.47 loss |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.47 in qualifying for our free bet.
Free Bet:
We’ll receive our £10.00 free bet upon settlement of our qualifying bet. The free bet must be used via mobile on the Match Odds market of Liverpool v Sheffield Utd, which kicks off at 20:00 on Thursday 2nd January 2020.
By using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to extract 80% cash from our £10.00 free bet, so £8.00. If we take into account our maximum qualifying loss of £0.47, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £7.53 on this Betfair Exchange offer!
* Man City won the match 2-1, resulting in a profit of £7.54 on this Betfair Exchange offer. *

Guest userHi.
The £10 free bet is for Liverpool to win so I can’t see how I can get a £7 plus profit from this offer as the odds are so low.
Thanks
Matt
1486You can place your free bet on any Match Odds selection Lindsay.

Guest userT’s and c’s say free bet to be used to back Liverpool to beat Sheff. United.

0Although you can place the bet on any Match Odds selection the terms of the promotion say “After the qualifying bet has settled, we’ll give you a £10 Exchange Mobile free bet to back Liverpool against Sheff Utd, Thu 2nd Jan”. If you place the bet on Sheff Utd or a Draw is it possible that Betfair will not honour the Free Bet?
Mark
Guest userI’ve wondered the same thing, fear is they withhold the winnings if Sheffield Utd won.
Vicky
Guest userThing is the option to use free bet isn’t there if you go onto any other market so surely if you could only bet on Liverpool then that would be the only one that the free bet comes up or it would tell you that you couldn’t bet on Sheff Utd. They surely wouldn’t be able to withhold winnings as they have enabled you to do it!!
Matt
1486As far as I’m aware, we can place the free bet on any of the three options within the Match Odds market.
I’ve not seen any reports of people having issues with this.

Guest userHi Matt.
It’s already been mentioned, but the terms say:
“After the qualifying bet has settled, we’ll give you a £10 Exchange Mobile free bet to back Liverpool against Sheff Utd, Thu 2nd Jan.”
Not even worth laying liverpool at odds of 1.28.
Potential profit for this particular offer is about £2.50 – If Liverpool win (Which they most definitely should)
Matt
1486It does say that in the terms Greg but the free bet can actually be placed on any Match Odds selection.
David
Guest userYeah, this promo is a bit of a con unless you win the £20 bet and then make the tiny profit from the £10 free bet as you don’t get the full £10 back.
Dave
Guest userThink it’s risky. Betfair might decide to ban u from promotions for not adhering to the T&C.
Matt
1486I think it’s personal preference with this one.
If you’re unsure about placing the free bet on the Draw or Sheffield Utd, there’s nothing wrong with taking the small profit on Liverpool or giving the offer a miss.
