Qualifying bet
If you’d like more information about qualifying bets and how they work, please see my qualifying bets guide.
The minimum stake is just 5p for this offer, but it’s worth staking at least £5.00 to blend in with regular punters. It’s entirely up to you what you place your qualifying bet on.
At the time of writing, Man City are available in the Full Time Result market at back odds of 2.70 (17/10). The lay odds are currently 2.88.
Smarkets works best for this offer
For this offer, Smarkets are the best option due to Sky Bet being part of the same group as Betfair.
Laying your bet at Betfair would probably be fine, but if you don’t want to risk it, Smarkets is your safest bet.
- 0% commission for 60 days
We can calculate our lay stakes using my Matched Betting Calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £4.72…
Place £5.00 on Man City @ 2.70 = Potential profit of £8.50
Lay £4.72 on Man City @ 2.88 = Potential liability of £8.87
Outcomes
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
So, no matter the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.38 in qualifying for our £5.00 free bet.
Free bet
Our £5.00 free bet will be credited upon placement of our qualifying bet and will be valid on any market. Free bets will not be subject to an expiry and free bet stakes are not included in any returns.
Using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to convert our free bet into 80% cash, so £4.00. If we take into account our maximum qualifying loss of £0.38, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.62 on this Sky Bet offer!
* Man City won the match 1-0, resulting in a profit of £3.63 on this Sky Bet offer. *

Guest userNot sure if you’re a bit tired mate, but you can just bet 5p and then get the £5 free bet, no need to lose any more.
Staking more would contribute to the Sky bet club if that’s the reason.
Matt
1490See the ‘Qualifying bet’ section for the reasoning Jack. Betting just 5p makes it pretty clear you’re just hitting the offer and is likely to draw unwanted attention to your account. Sky Bet isn’t one you want to lose.
Jack B
Guest userI’m dumb. Completely missed the “blend in with regular punters” part.
Matt
1490No worries Jack.

0I’m thinking of using the free bet on one of their enhanced accumulator prices. I’ve checked the T’s and C’s and doesn’t say I can’t. I’m a bit torn though.
Good idea? Because it’s an acca, therefore less suspicious than some random long odds horse.
Or
Bad idea? Because enhanced odds might draw attention etc.
Matt
1490I think they would see it as you taking an enhanced price as opposed to placing an acca. That said though, I think it’s fine to do it every now and again, just not every week. Regular punters probably do the same with their free bets, so it shouldn’t look that odd.
