Sky Bet Free Bet Offer – Ryder Cup 2014

The Ryder Cup is almost here and so it’s time for a Sky Bet free bet offer!  Place a minimum bet of £5.00 on any of the selected Ryder Cup outright markets.  These are Correct Score, Top Overall Points Scorer, Top European Points Scorer and Top USA Points Scorer.  If the USA win, Sky Bet will refund your total losing stake on those markets up to £150.00 as a free bet.  Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £48.57 and here’s how…

I initially advised sticking to the correct score market and selecting a score that wasn’t a USA win.  This would ensure us a free bet refund in the event that USA win the Ryder Cup.  I actually ended up getting some fantastic qualifying odds on the Friday morning about half an hour before the Ryder Cup 2014 teed off.  Having looked at the odds on offer, I opted to place my bet on Justin Rose being the top overall points scorer.

Step 1:

skybet

Place £150.00 on Justin Rose @ 11.00 = Potential profit of £1,500.00

betfair

Lay £165.81 on Justin Rose @ 10.00 = Potential liability of £1,492.29

Step 2:

Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the four outcomes…

Rose top scores and USA don’t win +£1500.00 – £1492.29 = £7.71 profit
Rose top scores and USA win +£1500.00 – £1492.29 = £7.71 profit
Rose doesn’t top score and USA don’t win -£150.00 + £157.69 = £7.69 profit
Rose doesn’t top score and USA win -£150.00 + £157.69 + £120.00 (extract 80% from our £150.00 free bet) = £127.69 profit

If you’re not sure how to extract 80% of the £150.00 free bet refund, please see my Free Bet Strategy page for a walkthrough guide on how it should be done.

So as things stood, I would have made a profit on all outcomes but a massive £127.69 profit if Rose didn’t top score and USA won.  I wanted to spread the profit across all outcomes and so I decided to lay a USA win at Betfair.

Step 3:

betfair

Lay £43.00 on USA @ 2.84 = Potential liability of £79.12

Let’s have a look at our overall profit/loss for the four outcomes…

Rose top scores and USA don’t win £7.71 + £40.85 = £48.56 profit
Rose top scores and USA win £7.71 – £79.12 = £71.41 loss
Rose doesn’t top score and USA don’t win £7.69 + £40.85 = £48.54 profit
Rose doesn’t top score and USA win £127.69 – £79.12 = £48.57 profit

As you can see, provided Justin Rose didn’t top score in a USA win, I stood to make a minimum profit of £48.54.  The odds of Justin Rose top scoring in a USA win would have been pretty long so I decided to go with the above calculations.  I was aware that with it being a 3-day event, if things weren’t going to plan I could act accordingly to eliminate the risk!

* At the end of day 2 Justin Rose was clear favourite to finish as overall top points scorer so I knew I had to eradicate the risk of a USA win.  I accordingly placed £8.00 on USA to win at odds of 14.00.  Justin Rose went on to finish as overall top points scorer and Europe won the Ryder Cup, leaving me with a tidy profit of £40.56! *
