It’s all eyes on Cheltenham on Tuesday as the 2016 Festival gets underway and you don’t want to miss this BetStars offer! Simply place a bet on any race on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival 2016 and if our horse finishes 2nd or 3rd, BetStars will refund our stake as a free bet up to a maximum of £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £48.72 and here’s how…
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unsure about how to place qualifying bets, check out my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
This offer is available on all 7 of Tuesday’s races at Cheltenham…
Time | Race |
---|---|
13:30 | Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle |
14:10 | Arkle Chase |
14:50 | Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase |
15:30 | Champion Hurdle |
16:10 | Mares Hurdle |
16:50 | National Hunt Chase |
17:30 | Close Brothers Novices Handicap Chase |
It’s entirely up to you which horses you go for, but it would make sense to select horses with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd or 3rd placed finish.
Having looked at the odds available for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (13:30), I’ve opted to place my qualifying bet on Min.
I like to place my exchange lay bets with Smarkets as they have great liquidity in the run up to races, the site is really easy to use and they only charge 2% commission in comparison to the 5% charged by other betting exchanges.
We can calculate our lay stakes using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.15…
Place £10.00 on Min @ 3.00 = Potential profit of £20.00
Lay £9.15 on Min @ 3.30 = Potential liability of £21.04
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Min wins | + £20.00 – £21.04 = £1.04 loss |
Min places 2nd or 3rd | – £10.00 + £8.96 + £8.00 (extract 80% from our £10.00 free bet) = £6.96 profit |
Min finishes outside top 3 | – £10.00 + £8.96 = £1.04 loss |
So we will make a nice profit of £6.96 if Min places 2nd or 3rd and we stand to lose £1.04 on any other outcome. Risking £1.04 to make £6.96 profit gives us effective odds of 7.69, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
If we apply the same strategy to all 7 races on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival 2016, we stand to make a potential profit of £48.72 on this BetStars Cheltenham offer!
Free bets will be credited within 3 hours of our qualifying bet(s) settling and will be valid for 7 days.
If you’re unsure how to extract 80% of a £10.00 free bet, check out my Free Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
I will update the bottom of this post with my actual selections at the end of Day 1.
* I actually placed my qualifying bets as follows…
Race | Selection | Back Odds | Lay Odds | Qualifying Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
13:30 | Min | 3.00 | 3.30 | £1.04 |
14:10 | Douvan | 1.30 | 1.31 | £0.12 |
14:50 | Out Sam | 7.50 | 8.20 | £1.01 |
15:30 | Annie Power | 3.50 | 3.90 | £1.16 |
16:10 | Vroum Vroum Mag | 1.833 | 1.87 | £0.29 |
16:50 | Noble Endeavour | 7.50 | 8.60 | £1.43 |
17:30 | Double Shuffle | 10.00 | 12.00 | £1.82 |
…Min and Double Shuffle were the only two horses to trigger refunds by finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. I therefore received £20.00 (2 x £10.00) in free bets, from which I was able to extract £16.00 cash. Taking into account my total qualifying loss of £6.87, I made an overall profit of £9.13 on this BetStars offer. *
