It’s Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival 2018 and you don’t want to miss this Sun Bets Money Back Special! If our horse finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the Stayers Hurdle (15:30) on Thursday, Sun Bets will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £25.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £16.87 and here’s how…

Qualifying bets must be placed between 14:00 on Tuesday 13th March 2018 and 15:30 (race-off) on Thursday 15th March 2018, to be eligible.
Qualifying Bet:
It’s entirely up to you which horse you go for, but it would make sense to select a horse with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th place finish.
At the time of writing, the lay odds aren’t quite tight enough, so I’ll use fictional odds for Sam Spinner in the following example and I’ll update the bottom of the post with an actual selection after the race.

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £24.34…
Place £25.00 on Sam Spinner @ 4.333 = Potential profit of £83.33
Lay £24.34 on Sam Spinner @ 4.50 = Potential liability of £85.19
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
| Sam Spinner wins | + £83.33 – £85.19 = £1.86 loss |
| Sam Spinner places 2nd 3rd or 4th | – £25.00 + £23.12 + £18.75 (extract 75% from our £25.00 free bet) = £16.87 profit |
| Sam Spinner finishes outside top 4 | – £25.00 + £23.12 = £1.88 loss |
So, we’ll make a nice profit of £16.87 if Sam Spinner places 2nd, 3rd or 4th and we stand to lose a maximum of £1.88 on any other outcome. Risking £1.88 to make a profit of £16.87 gives us effective odds of 9.97, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
