I’m going to use fictional odds in the following example to illustrate how this offer works and I’ll update the table at the bottom of the post with some genuine selections at the end of each day.
The starting price (SP) favourite is the horse that starts the race with the shortest odds. It’s therefore best to wait until close to the race starting as we need to be fairly sure that our selection isn’t going to start the race as favourite.
At the time of writing, Allmankind is back odds of 5.00 (4/1) to win the Arkle Chase (13:55 Tuesday). Let’s imagine the lay odds are 5.30.

Place £20.00 on Allmankind @ 5.00 = Potential profit of £80.00
Lay £18.94 on Allmankind @ 5.30 = Potential liability of £81.44

So, we would make a nice profit of £14.56 if Allmankind finishes 2nd or 3rd to the SP favourite, or lose £1.44 on any other outcome. Risking £1.44 to make a potential profit of £14.56 gives us effective odds of 11.11. So, with Shishkin favourite to win the race at odds as short as 1.50 (1/2), I’m sure you’ll agree this a profitable offer in the long run.
We won’t find a suitable selection for every race, nor should we be aiming to bet on every race. Stick to races where there is a clear favourite and keep your qualifying losses to a minimum.
