Qualifying bets must be placed before 16:20 (race-off) on Friday 22nd June 2018, to be eligible.
For our qualifying bet, we need to back and lay a horse that is unlikely to start the race as favourite. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Threading.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Smarkets gives us the smallest qualifying loss.

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.58…
Place £10.00 on Threading @ 11.00 = Potential profit of £100.00
Lay £9.58 on Threading @ 11.50 = Potential liability of £100.59
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
| Threading wins | + £100.00 – £100.59 = £0.59 loss |
| SP Favourite wins | – £10.00 + £9.38 + £8.00 (extract 80% from our £10.00 free bet) = £7.38 profit |
| Another horse wins | – £10.00 + £9.38 = £0.62 loss |
So, if the starting price (SP) favourite wins, we’ll make a nice profit of £7.38. Any other outcome and we’ll lose a maximum of £0.62. Risking £0.62 to make a profit of £7.38, gives us effective odds of 12.90. So, given that Alpha Centauri (SP Favourite at the time of writing) is odds of 4.50 (7/2) to win the race, this is a profitable offer in the long run.
