Qualifying bets must be placed after 08:00 on each respective day, to be eligible.
To qualify, we must place a £5.00+ bet on selected races at York this week. If our selection wins the race by 3+ lengths, Ladbrokes will double our winnings in free bets, up to a maximum of £100.00. If eligible, free bets will be credited within 24 hours of our bet being settled and will be valid for 48 hours. Free bet stakes are not included in any returns.
It’s entirely up to you which horses you go for. Having looked at the odds available for the 15:00 at York today (Wednesday), I’ve opted to place my qualifying bet on Cracksman.
In order to work out our back stake, we need to divide £100.00 by 0.90 (back odds minus 1.00). This gives us a back stake of £111.11. It’s best that we stick to round numbers when placing our qualifying bet, so I’ll be staking £100.00 instead.
I like to place my exchange lay bets with Smarkets as they have great liquidity in the run up to races, the site is really easy to use and they only charge 2% commission in comparison to the 5% charged by other betting exchanges.

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £98.45…
Place £100.00 on Cracksman @ 1.90 = Potential profit of £90.00
Lay £98.45 on Cracksman @ 1.95 = Potential liability of £93.52
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…

| Cracksman wins by 3+ lengths | + £90.00 – £93.52 + £72.00 (extract 80% from our £90.00 free bet) = £68.48 profit |
| Cracksman doesn’t win | – £100.00 + £96.48 = £3.52 loss |
So, we’ll make a nice profit of £68.48 if Cracksman wins the race by 3+ lengths and we stand to lose £3.52 on any other outcome. Risking £3.52 to make a profit of £68.48 gives us effective odds of 20.45, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
