There’s a big day of racing at Newbury on Saturday and it’s time for another Sky Bet money back offer! If our horse finishes 2nd in the 13:50 Newbury, Sky Bet will refund our stake as cash, up to a maximum of £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £9.14 and here’s how…
Key terms
- Applies to our first bet on the 13:50 Newbury.
- Applies to bets placed between 11:00 on Thursday 13th May 2021 and 13:50 (race-off) on Saturday 15th May 2021.
- If fewer than five runners come under starters orders, Sky Bet may withdraw the offer.
- If our horse finishes 2nd, Sky Bet will refund our stake as cash, up to £10.00.
Qualifying bet
If you’d like more information about qualifying bets and how they work, please see my qualifying bets guide.
It’s entirely up to you which horse you go for, but it would make sense to select a horse with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd place finish.
At the time of writing, the back and lay odds aren’t quite tight enough. Tactical is favourite to win the race at back odds of 2.875 (15/8). I’ll use lay odds of 3.10 to illustrate how this offer works and I’ll update the bottom of the post with a genuine selection after the race.
Smarkets works best for this offer
For this offer, Smarkets are the best option due to Sky Bet being part of the same group as Betfair.
Laying your bet at Betfair would probably be fine, but if you don’t want to risk it, Smarkets is your safest bet.
- 0% commission for 60 days.
- Extend for 30 days via MBB at any time.
We can calculate our lay stake using my Matched Betting Calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.33…
Outcomes
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
So, we’d make a nice profit of £9.14 if Tactical finishes 2nd or we’d lose a maximum of £0.86 on any other outcome. Risking £0.86 to make a potential profit of £9.14 gives us effective odds of 11.63, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
If eligible, cash refunds will be credited within 24 hours of the race finishing.
* Creative Force was available at back odds of 3.50 and lay odds of 3.70. Creative Force won the race, resulting in a loss of £0.67 on this Sky Bet offer. *

4Hi Matt,
One question that I always have. When do you reckon is better to do this kind of offers, closer to the race or as soon as they announce them.
Both in terms of finding tighter odds and also to take care of the account (PP and Skybet are my main ones).
Normally when I check the odds you find have gone wider so I always wonder whether take the larger loss or wait until an hour or so before the race, or even just before.
Matt
1603If you’re able to wait until 15-30 minutes before a race, I would say that’s undoubtedly the best time. That’s when regular punters will be placing their bets so it makes it a lot harder for the bookie to pick you out as a matched bettor. The odds are usually pretty good too.
