Place £10.00 on Crystal Ocean @ 3.75 = Potential profit of £27.50
Lay £9.62 on Crystal Ocean @ 3.95 = Potential liability of £28.37

Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
| Crystal Ocean wins | + £27.50 – £28.37 = £0.87 loss |
| Cracksman wins | – £10.00 + £9.13 + £8.00 (extract 80% from our £10.00 free bet) = £7.13 profit |
| Another horse wins | – £10.00 + £9.13 = £0.87 loss |
So, if Cracksman wins, we’ll make a nice profit of £7.13. Any other outcome and we’ll lose £0.87. Risking £0.87 to make a profit of £7.13, gives us effective odds of 9.20. So, given that Cracksman is odds of just 1.833 (5/6) to win the race, this is a profitable offer in the long run.
