Royal Ascot 2019 gets underway on Tuesday and you don’t want to miss this Betway Money Back Special! Simply place a bet on the first race each day and if it loses, Betway will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us an overall guaranteed profit of £30.00 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- Minimum stake of £2.00.
- Qualifying bets must be placed on the first race at Royal Ascot each day (18th – 22nd June 2019).
- If our bet loses, Betway will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £10.00.
Qualifying Bets:
This offer is available on the following races at Royal Ascot 2019…
Race | Time | Date |
---|---|---|
Queen Anne Stakes | 14:30 | Tuesday 18th June 2019 |
Queen Mary Stakes | 14:30 | Wednesday 19th June 2019 |
Norfolk Stakes | 14:30 | Thursday 20th June 2019 |
Albany Stakes | 14:30 | Friday 21st June 2019 |
Chesham Stakes | 14:30 | Saturday 22nd June 2019 |
Losing stakes are refunded as a free bet, so this is effectively a risk-free bet offer.
We’ll need to select horses with long odds in order to maximise our profits.
At the time of writing, the lay odds for the Queen Anne Stakes aren’t quite tight enough, so I’ll use fictional lay odds for Laurens in the following example and I’ll update the bottom of the post with an actual selection after the race.
At the time of writing, laying our bet with Smarkets is likely to give us the biggest guaranteed profit.
We can work out our lay stake by using the ‘Risk-Free Bet’ setting on my matched betting calculator. We can enter £8.00 as our ‘Cashback’ figure as this is the amount we can expect to extract (80%) from our £10.00 free bet refund, should our horse lose…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £8.17…
Place £10.00 on Laurens @ 6.50 = Potential profit of £55.00
Lay £8.17 on Laurens @ 7.00 = Potential liability of £49.02
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Extracted | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
Laurens wins | +£55.00 | -£49.02 | £5.98 profit | |
Laurens doesn’t win | -£10.00 | +£8.00 | +£8.00 | £6.00 profit |
So, regardless of the outcomes and with some good odds, we should make a guaranteed profit of £6.00+ on all five races, giving us an overall guaranteed profit of £30.00 on this Betway offer!
If eligible, free bets will be credited within 24 hours of our qualifying bets being settled and will be valid for 24 hours. Free bet stakes are not included in any returns.
If you’re unsure how to extract £8.00 cash (80%) from a £10.00 free bet, check out my Free Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
I’ll update the following table during the festival with suggested bets for all races…
Race | Selection | Back Odds | Lay Odds | Profit |
---|---|---|---|---|
14:30 Tuesday | Mustashry | 6.50 | 7.00 | £6.00 |
14:30 Wednesday | Final Song | 6.00 | 6.40 | £5.98 |
14:30 Thursday | Mount Fuji | 8.50 | 9.40 | £6.04 |
14:30 Friday | Nayibeth | 9.00 | 9.80 | £6.21 |
14:30 Saturday | Rose Of Kildare | 12.00 | 13.50 | £6.14 |
Total: | £30.37 |

Guest userWon’t be doing this just been gubbed 😔
Ryan
Guest userWhat happens if the horse wins though? You won’t get the FB so I assume you just have a small qualifying loss?
Matt
1490Take a look at the table in the ‘Outcomes’ section Ryan.
The ‘Risk-Free Bet’ setting on the calculator gives us an underlay stake. This ensures that if our horse wins, we win more at the bookmaker (£55.00) than we lose at the exchange (£49.02), giving us a nice profit (£5.98).

Guest userLiterally just got banned this morning 🙁
Vicky
Guest userMe too Aaron, must have done account reviews. Banned from Moplay too
Nick
Guest userSlightly different question….
Me and my friend both qualified for the refer a friend bonus on Smarkets. What’s the best way to extract this? It’s a £10 back if your bet loses.
I’m not too sure if I have to back or lay on Smarkets?
Thanks.
Bob
Guest userJust back and lay as normal on smarkets and when the exchange bets lose they’ll refund it upto £10
Nick
Guest userSo I can just back £10 on any event and hope it wins? If it wins I keep going, if I lose I get it refunded anyway?
No laying required?
Pete
Guest userWith Betway your losing bet refund is as a free bet and not as cash, so if you want to lock in a profit it would involve laying.
Matt
1490I think Nick is referring to a different offer there Pete.
Pete
Guest userOh right, sorry Matt. Excellent work on the offers today btw.
Matt
1490No problem and thanks Pete. I hope it’s a profitable festival for you.
Tim
Guest userWould it work to just treat like a normal qualifying bet – e.g. bet horse to win and lay on Smarkets – and if it doesnt win then will have a free ten pound bet to have a flutter on a different race?
Matt
1490It’s entirely up to you Tim.
You won’t get a free bet if your horse wins, whereas the method outlined above guarantees a profit.
Chris
Guest userMy stake has been restricted to £4.44, could this be my first gubbing?
Matt
1490It looks that way, unfortunately Chris.
Mark
Guest userAnyone else still waiting for the free bet from today?
John
Guest userFirst they restricted my bet size to €5 than I was waiting for the free bet but just found out I’ve been gubbed.
